Job Title: Assistant Chef ($2,000 Recruitment Bonus) Department: Business Advancement | Blackwell Food and Beverage Operations Job Description The Assistant Chef is responsible for ensuring the overall preparation sanitation and monitoring of cooked foods for all meal periods in our restaurant as well as room service and lounge. Assists other areas of the kitchen as needed. The Assistant Chef operates as a key part of the culinary and management teams and with regard to directing the workflow of a team of full-time and student employees within a food station or preparation area as well as cooking and presenting a large variety of foods. Creates station diagrams trains staff creates daily specials writes prep lists assists with menu suggestions menu writing and plating design. The Assistant Chef creates and interprets as well as assists other in interpreting recipes and the measuring of ingredients. The Assistant Chef is also knowledgeable in the proper operation of standard kitchen equipment and is skilled in training others on the equipment’s proper and safe use. Maintains cleanliness throughout the operation. This is a 24 hour 7 days a week operation required to work days evenings weekends and holiday hours as necessary. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 2 years of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred. FUNCTION: Food Service SUB-FUNCTION: Food Production CAREER BAND: Specialized CAREER LEVEL: S2 Additional Information: Hiring Range: $17.75 - $23.66/hour including shift and weekend differential. Final salary will be determined by candidates education and experience. Ohio State is focused on enhancing the health and safety of our community.
