TITLE OF INTERNSHIP: Biological Properties Intern
INTERNSHIP SUPERVISOR: Jose Fernandez Romero, Scientist II
LOCATION: Center for Biomedical Research, New York, NY
ASSIGNMENT LENGTH: Less than 6 months
INTERNSHIP SUMMARY: This internship aims to recruit three students from the City University of New York (CUNY) to give the students the opportunity to experience biomedical research at Population Council. The students will learn basic skills to work in a biomedical research laboratory. The student will benefit from this internship by presenting the data at the BMCC Summer REU Symposium. Additionally, the students will be co-authors in posters/manuscripts submitted to international conferences/ peer-reviewed journals.
The students are receiving a stipend from CUNY to participate in this research project.
Three strong external candidates have been identified.
INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. The students will learn and perform calibration and maintenance of basic equipment.
2. The students will learn and perform basic cell culture procedures.
3. The students will perform cytotoxicity and antiviral assays.
4. The students will learn about flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy.
