JOB TITLE: HIM Technician
SUPERVISOR: H.I.M Supervisor
HOURS PER WEEK: 40hrs/Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: H.I.M.

HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To carry out and follow direction in a variety of clerical duties involved in maintaining patient medical records within electronic and paper charts. This includes sorting, scanning, indexing, filing, Q/A, retrieving, distributing medical records, loose notes, reports, and maintaining associated hybrid records in accordance with established priorities and procedures in any section of Health Information Management
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (* ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
1. Sort eFax documents from electronic work queue to the appropriate Clinic/Physician folders. *
2. Sort daily incoming documents for paper and electronic document scanning. *
3. Prepare loose paper for scanning. *
4. Scan, Separate, Index, Q&A prepared loose sheets and match results to orders into the EHR. *
5. Possess a clear understanding of the document types and descriptions used to index documents. *
6. Ability to identify with quick recognition/memorization of medical and legal documents. *
7. Participate in annual chart audits and other projects, such as back-scanning charts and proper secure purging and destruction of charts as regulated by state/federal guidelines. *
8. Order, pull, and send charts to requesters as needed.
9. Monitor Inbasket and worklist messages in EPIC.
10. Meet defined benchmarks/productivity standards for H.I.M functions. *
11. Aptitude to learn customer service skills, such as answering phones to assist staff and/or patients with information under supervision. *

EDUCATION/LICENSES REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
Experience with medical terminology
Ability to file accurately using terminal digit and alpha/numerical order
Understand HIPAA rules and regulations
Ability to function independently and as a team-oriented player, in a fast-paced environment
Ability to type 40 wpm
Good verbal and written communications skills
Detail oriented, accurate and organized
Possess good organizational skills
Ability to adapt to change
Experience with computers, printers, and scanners
