What are the responsibilities and job description for the Radiation Oncology (Kona, Big Island) position at The Queen's Health System?
Provides radiation oncology services for patients of the Radiation Oncology Department with cancer and other medical conditions through the conduct and supervision of radiation treatment; and advice and provision of palliative and other support through direct patient care.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic care to the patients of the Department:
Participates in the MD Anderson Initiative in good faith – including but not limited to case audits and quality performance measures as defined by MD Anderson Physician Network.
Assists in quality assurance programs of the Department. Participates in quality assurance activities and assists in implementing quality assurance tasks and activities.
Maintains clinical expertise by regular participation in continuing medical education programs.
Participates directly in seminars, lectures, grand rounds, presentations, and various research projects.
Takes call in rotation with other radiation oncology physicians.
Covers other clinic physicians as needed.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic care to the patients of the Department:
- Receives direct referred patients from appropriate community physicians, agencies and resources.
- Confirms cancer-related diagnosis given by other appropriate physicians.
- Follows the best radiation therapy technique to prescribe to patients consistent with the standards and practice guidelines of the American College of Radiology (ACR), National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), and American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).
- Approves patient care plan, prescription, etc., and countersigns notes.
- Completes correspondence and documentation on patients as required.
- Promotes and participates in patient education and rehabilitation.
- Clinically manages patient throughout course of treatment and follows up with patient accordingly.
- Discusses areas for improvement in patient care, institutes plan for correction with other physicians or providers as necessary.
- Supervises all procedures carried out by nurses, medical assistants, physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists, or other practitioners, as require

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification.
- Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
- Board certified or board eligible in Radiation Oncology or Therapeutic Radiology medicine. If board eligible at time of hire, must obtain board certification within two (2) years of hire.
- BLS certified.
- During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the QMC medical staff in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction.
- Qualified for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine.
- One (1) year post residency experience preferred.
