The School of Education and Human Development (EHD) is seeking applicants for a full-time Director of Assessment, Accountability, and Accreditation (DAAA). Under the general direction of the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Student Affairs, this position is responsible for establishing and sustaining a culture of assessment for continuous improvement of the school’s academic offerings. The DAAA will use evidence based on program and accreditation standards to continuously monitor, evaluate, and improve academic offerings in the school. The DAAA oversees the design, development, and management of a comprehensive and integrated assessment system to provide information to evaluate academic programs’ productivity, effectiveness, and impact as well as conduct needs and satisfaction studies for key stakeholder groups (i.e., pulse surveys, employer satisfaction surveys, program completer surveys, alumni surveys). The DAAA effectively collaborates with other stakeholders to identify, collect, maintain, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data from various sources. The incumbent has proficiency in qualitative and quantitative approaches and experience designing direct and indirect assessment methods. The DAAA effectively communicates analyses to inform planning, decision-making and compliance with regulations; works collaboratively with faculty and staff to create, plan and administer program assessments; manages internal and external reporting requirements (CAEP Annual Report, Title II reporting, US News and World Report); and oversees data systems related to accreditation. Successful incumbents are expected to independently manage day-to-day administration of data and perform moderately complex analyses, forecasting, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Gathers, Analyzes and Uses Data for Continuous Improvement and Accreditation
The DAAA has knowledge and experience using a variety of qualitative and quantitative research tools, software programs, and methods to gather evidence to continuously monitor, evaluate, and improve academic offerings in the school. The incumbent will maintain a calendar of assessment activities to ensure adequate data regarding program and student outcomes. The accreditation activities will result in a successful record of attaining full accreditation from institutional and regional accreditation bodies as well as from the professional accrediting bodies that governs six different licensure programs.

The incumbent should have working knowledge of CAEP and SACS-COC requirements, as EHD will undergo accreditation self-study and site visits for both entities in 2022.

Program Evaluation and Assessment for the Purposes of Program Improvement
The incumbent is responsible for oversight of the design, development, and management of a comprehensive and integrated assessment and program evaluation system to provide data and information which informs decision-making regarding program outcomes and improvement in relation to EHD goals and mission, state requirements, and accreditation standards. The DAAA must have a demonstrated record of successful long-range planning and project management. The DAAA should be comfortable engaging key internal and external stakeholders in program evaluation activities. The DAAA should have experience in assessment development in a variety of contexts, such as clinical settings.

Oversees Internal and External Reporting
The DAAA is responsible for managing internal and external reporting for multiple purposes (i.e., CAEP Annual Report, Title II reporting, US News and World Report) as well as creating actionable reports to stakeholders that include trend analysis, disaggregating special populations, and data models. Manages accreditation reporting and visits, including all aspects of national and state accreditation reporting, writing unit and program level self-study reports in collaboration with EHD and UVA faculty and staff, and any related follow-up reports, including annual updates.

Collaborates and Problem Solves
The DAAA builds strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders (i.e., students, faculty, staff, administrators, PK-12 audiences, policy makers). Serves as liaison to UVA’s Office of Institutional Research and Analytics. Promotes institutional adherence with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation, SCHEV, and federal government (e.g., Department of Education distance education) academic compliance requirements. Has a tangible record of handling complex tasks, fostering strong interpersonal partnerships, exhibits school, university and state-level leadership, and exhibits strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Minimum Requirement:

Education: Advanced degree.
Experience: At least four years of relevant experience.
Licensure: None
Preferred Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience with program evaluation, and applied quantitative and qualitative research methods in designing and conducting assessments of student learning outcomes in higher education;
  • Experience and proficiency in using data collection and survey tools (e.g, Excel, Qualtrics, SmartSheet) and statistical and qualitative analysis programs for reporting and decision support (i.e., SPSS, SAS, R, or comparable statistical analysis software);
  • Experience with and working knowledge of program assessment processes and accreditation standards in education (e.g., SACSCOC, CAEP, APA, CACREP, ASHA, CAATE);
  • Experience in leading accreditation reporting and site visits;
  • Experience with program development, including alignment to state and federal regulations;
  • Evidence of independent and creative thinking and problem solving, notable organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills and skills to effectively communicate with Deans, Department Chairs, Faculty, Administrators, Staff and others;
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders within the School of Education and Human Development, across other units within the University, and external organizations and agencies;
  • Evidence of long-and short-term planning; strong time management skills; careful attention to detail; skills to manage projects and a school-wide calendar of assessment-related activities and reporting timelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people from all levels and backgrounds at the University, including students, families, and faculty members.
  • Cultural competency: ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse community of students, faculty, and colleagues.
  • Ability to understand the organizational and interpersonal impact of individual actions. Successful candidates will be self-aware and self-reflective, able to learn through observation and reflection, without having to rely on direct instruction.
  • Excellent analytical skills—ability to independently define problems accurately and concisely, using both quantitative and qualitative methods, develop and execute one or more solutions, and evaluate its effectiveness. Experience in Smartsheet or other workflow management systems is preferred.
  • Ability to function effectively as an integral part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and ability to execute transactions with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to achieve success within a rapidly changing and, at times, uncertain environment—must be comfortable with and inspired by the prospect of change.
