What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Clinician position at The Research Foundation for The State University of New York at Stony Brook?
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Professional and/or academic certification commensurate with placement and monitoring of IV catheters and blood drawing included, but not limited to, Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist, Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner or Medical Doctor. One (1) year of healthcare experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in placing venous catheters. Experience with general phlebotomy procedures. Experience in a research environment.
Brief Description of Duties:
The successful candidate will participate in a study funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) involving human research participants. The study involved day, night and weekend hours and multiple candidates are needed to cover all shifts. The goal of the study is to understand the relationship between circadian rhythm and mood. The successful candidate will work with participants including healthy controls and participants with major depressive disorder. During the study, blood sampling is required approximately once an hour.
Duties:
- Preparing for the research study including providing lists of supplies needed for blood sampling.
- Ensuring that supplies are present and available for the research study.
- Preparing the participant for blood drawing including placement of an IV.
- Acquiring blood samples once an hour.
- Preparing the blood samples for analysis (centrifuging and freezing, training will be provided).
- Monitoring the research participant and ensuring their comfort.
- Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
