The Richland Hospital & Clinics is seeking a Director of Dietary Services & Environmental Services to join our team. The Director of Dietary and Environmental Services is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the overall operations of the support services of Dietary and Environmental Services. The Director ensures compliance with patient care food quality standards by working collaboratively with the Dieticians(s) and other staff as relates to the nutritional care of patients, and compliance with laundry and housekeeping standards through the Environmental Services Supervisor. The Director maintains performance improvement activities within the department(s) and assures competency of all department personnel. The Director maintains efficient and effective department operations while requiring compliance with all DNV, state, federal and hospital/local regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities
- Plan, direct and coordinate all Dietary, Housekeeping and Laundry Department functions.
- Consistently communicates organizational updates and initiatives with the Dietary Services staff.
- Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, proper reporting,
documentation and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment.
- Organizes, supervises and monitors the provision of services, practices and procedures of the Dietary, Housekeeping and Laundry Services Departments; ensures all applicable guidelines for accreditation, quality assurance and safe patient care are met.
- Maintain professional competency through continuing education, attendance at educational seminars and developing professional contact network.
- Provide leadership by engaging staff in the hospital’s mission and values.
- Assure adequate, qualified staff and promotes effective utilization of personnel.
- Maintain competence of staff through performance reviews, competency testing, periodic assessment and hiring practices.
- Develops and maintains a staff competency program and provides or recommends in-service education to enhance staff expertise.
- Promotes an environment that facilitates innovation, creative solutions and empowerment.
- Effectively manage conflicts among supervised staff and between supervised staff and other hospital employees.
- Ensure a safe working environment through adherence to fire codes and policies, disaster policies and promotion of ergonomically sound work habits.
- Maintain proper functioning of all equipment.
- Promote exceptional customer service to all patients and to all hospital staff.
- Manages food production, evaluates new food products, and orders/maintains food and supply inventory.
- Assess and selects vendors for food, materials, equipment and other supplies used by the Dietary Department.
- Continuously evaluate quality and presentation of food and other provided services and implement program of quality improvement.
- Continuously improve departmental efficiency.
- Manages the financial operations for all assigned cost centers, preparing cost estimates and justifications for budget recommendations; monitors and controls expenditures to ensure the accomplishment of objectives within the approved budget.
- Manages budgets, capital projects and capital resources efficiently and effectively.
- Collaborate with the Finance Department to establish, maintain and update appropriate charge formulas.
- Communicate effectively with senior management, medical and nursing staff in order to coordinate and develop services to meet the needs of the hospital and patients of all ages.
- Ensures departmental records and files are properly maintained, and directs preparation of reports and analyses reflecting departmental activities such as number of meals prepared, equipment and supply usage, etc. Prepares more complex reports and analyses as necessary.
- Develop, maintain and implement departmental policies.
- Serve on committees and task forces as necessary.
- Coordinates and conducts monthly staff meetings and provide in-service education as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable State and Federal laws as well as The Joint Commission standards.
- Communicate departmental activities, needs, problems and administrative matters to senior management.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Education Required:
· Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, preferred
· Associates degree in related field required.
Credential/Licensure Required:
· Food Manager License valid in the State of Wisconsin
Certification Required:
· Certified Dietary Manager (CDM)
· Certified Food Protection Professional (CFPP)
