Purpose and Importance of Position
Leads a team of Assumed Claim Analysts who are responsible for assumed handling of Assumed APO claims, including resolution of contract and claim issues, claim evaluation, establishment of adequate reserves, litigation management, case resolution and transaction processing, and implementation of strategic initiatives relating to assumed APO claims.
Essential Functions
Visible strategic leader helping to develop and implement strategic initiatives for managing and resolving various exposures within RiverStone’s assumed reinsurance portfolio.- Reviews and assigns loss notices to appropriate staff; provides guidance as to coverage interpretation, liability evaluation, claim reserving, investigation, litigation strategy and management, negotiation, claim resolution, written communications and timely reporting to retrocessionaires.
- Provides guidance on technical claim handling issues and strategies to claim analysts in the Unit via supervisory reviews, roundtables, audits and diary review. Oversees the interaction and correspondence with cedents and brokers. Also, directs claim handlers in the analysis of reinsurance contracts, evaluation of underlying claim relative to liability, damages, allocation and number of occurrences.
- Monitors the workflow in the Team to ensure proper claim and contract setup, reserving, and transaction processing. The Manager is also responsible for oversight of the general handling of the claim files, application of the Claim Handling Guidelines, and assuring the Unit is compliant with all company policies and procedures.
- Participates in developing claim handling techniques, litigation, and resolution strategy.
- Regularly provides specific claims, specific cedents and/or general market information to senior management relative to new notices of loss, claim trends, financial and general statistical data, claim evaluations, arbitration hearing and trials.
- Works closely with interested constituents on claim matters, including the Office of General Counsel, Finance, Reinsurance, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Actuarial Departments as well as affiliate representatives. Ensures the direct and free exchange of information between the Unit, Department and those constituents. May interact as a representative of the company with industry groups, cedent representatives and other external stakeholders.
- As part of Claims Leadership Team, participates in and contributes to business planning, initiatives and strategy.

Leadership Essential Functions:
- Supervises, monitors, mentors and/or leads direct reports.
- Works with Analysts and other assigned staff to further develop those associates’ professional skills and qualifications. Provides direct coaching, performance assessment and feedback to staff. Evaluates assigned staff’s performance and provides feedback to the company’s senior leaders.
- Participates in recruiting, hiring, mentoring and guiding Assumed Claims Analysts.
- Partners with direct reports on meeting deliverables in a timely manner.
- Communicates vision of department/company for all projects and team assignments, ensuring that all team members understand desired outcomes.
- Works to ensure an atmosphere of teamwork, collaboration and empowerment is created for each project, program, and team member.

Required Education
Four-year college degree or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Education or Certification
Five or more years’ experience as a claims professional with a high degree of specialized and technical competence in the handling of assumed claims with emphasis on hands-on file and litigation management.

Work Environment / Physical Demands
This position operates in a professional, collaborative environment and must have the ability to timely produce thorough, accurate work with many competing demands, deadlines, and distractions. The position uses standard equipment such as phones, computers, copiers/printers and filing cabinets. Noise level is moderate.
