About this opportunity:
This position is responsible for researching and identifying government grants, private and corporate foundation opportunities and evaluates appropriateness for the Potomac Division. Develops grant proposals and manages the grant development process to develop funds that will sustain and expand the program and administrative needs; assembles all pertinent grant material packages for final submission; ensures overall accuracy and quality of all grant contract documents leaving the organization; develops and maintains thorough knowledge of The Salvation Army contracts with donors; works with Regional Resource Development Directors, Corps Officers, and the Legal Clerk or local unit staff to coordinate the completion and submission of required follow-up reports, and updates and maintains the grants management database.
Key responsibilities:
Develops and writes grant proposals for programs/program components for private (i.e., foundations) and public (federal and local government) funding; secures funding for programs/program components throughout the Potomac Division.
Develops funding prospects for the Potomac Division; assists corps with research for funding grants, trends, and other information pertinent to the work of The Salvation Army.
Research public funding opportunities, as well as appropriate private foundations, for Salvation Army programs; develops local unit or command wide grant proposals; works with Regional Resource Development Directors, Corps Officers, and the Legal Clerk and local unit staff members to prepare, write, coordinate and submit grants proposals.
Attends meetings and other community involvements as assigned, which are pertinent to the promotion and support of The Salvation Army and enhances its development programs and projects.
Develops relationships with the local and broader community to enhance support of operations for which this position is responsible.
Travels, as needed, to represent The Salvation Army both locally and abroad to support and enhance all development programs and projects.
What we are looking for in you:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in English, Journalism, Communications or Marketing or related field,
Seven years related work experience and/or training including three years of grant writing experience.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, culture, and protocol of The Salvation Army and conducts all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
Work may be performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like but not limited to the office environment.
