The Pantry Assistant is a skilled position whereby the employee l assists with all activities related to the pantry program in the Family Resource Center and the Mishawaka Food Pantry location. This means overseeing the contents of the pantry, ordering food within a budget, and conducting individual meetings with those seeking assistance. In addition, the Pantry Assistant r will
contribute to the holiday programs, and maintain knowledge of other services while providing overall support to the Family Resource Center along with the Mishawaka Location.
- Specific Functions:
- Execute overall Pantry program
- Monitor and analyze pantry contents for both locations
- Order food and other items for distribution effectively within a budget
- Procure items for pantry through other channels as possible
- Maintain an organized client filing system and perform data entry
- Attend meetings, workshops, or seminars related to pantry issues as required
- Greet and welcome clients
- Determine eligibility based upon established policies and procedures
- Provide food and accurate referrals about Salvation Army and community-wide programs
- Engage clients in private consultations
- Seek solutions to needs that clients express
- Assist with Christmas and other seasonal programs
- Assist with the Backpack School Program
- Prepare for and participate in additional programs as they arise
- Perform additional duties as needed
- Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent At least two years in an administrative support role
- Commitment to serving others and understanding the needs of the surrounding community
- Computer literacy; proficiency with Microsoft Office™ and openness to learning other client software
- Level-headedness, resiliency, flexibility, consistency, dependability, compassion
- Organizational skills, commitment to confidentiality
- Ability to recall pertinent information when needed
- Spanish language proficiency preferred
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
- Clearance of Background Check and training in ‘Safe from Harm’
- Ability to lift and carry 20 lbs
