What are the responsibilities and job description for the Benefits Specialist position at The Sheridan Press?
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented, highly motivated, hands-on Benefit Specialist to join our coprorate HR team. The Benefit Specialist will have joint responsibility for daily administration of employee benefits programs as well as the 401(k) retirement plan; routine compliance administration with federal/state and tax requirements as well as providing primary benefits customer service to all CJK Group locations and employees. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.
Reports to Corporate Benefits Administrator.
- Administer employee benefits plans such as medical, dental, vision, life, LTD, voluntary plans and 401(k) plans.
- Coordinate payment of claims and administrative fees with vendors
- Act as liaison between the company/employees and various insurance carriers and plan administrators. Advise employees on interpretation of plan provisions.
- Enroll new employees in benefits plans utilizing the HRIS system and provide benefits information to eligible employees.
- Coordinate and administer activities of company’s 401(k) – audits, compliance, notifications
- Ensure timely transmission of benefits files to ADP and vendors from HRIS system
- Prepare, distribute, and maintain benefits description booklets, statements, certificates, open enrollment materials. Ensures all communication materials are up to date and compliant with regulations.
- Remain current on all government regulations involving benefits, including FLSA, FMLA, Worker’s Compensation, HIPAA, ADA, etc.
- Compiles routine and special reports on benefits matters for audits and government filings such as ACA
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality in handling employee records
:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field preferred
- 4-5 years demonstrated benefits analyst or administrator experience.
- Solid technical knowledge of benefits functional areas.
- Even-tempered with exceptional customer service skills.
- Detailed knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to benefits programs including COBRA.
- Experience with multiple carriers, multiple locations and an employee base of 4,000 in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Strong mathematical and computer skills. Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Power Point. Data entry skills with emphasis on accuracy.
- Excellent planning, time management, communication, decision making and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with HRIS/payroll software (ADP would be ideal)
