Advocacy and Volunteer Coordinator
Position Summary
The Advocacy and Volunteer Coordinator is in charge of a committed group of volunteer advocates, including expanding their number, monthly training sessions, and support. The position includes frequent phone calls with community members who reach out for support, responding appropriately with assigning them to appropriate advocates or other community support. Finally, the Advocacy and Volunteer Coordinator will engage, mobilize, and train individuals and organizations to advocate for and support a community where people with special needs, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, can live their best lives.
Duties and responsibilities
- Commitment to SNSC’s mission, vision, and values.
- Responsible for the implementation and management of the Parent Educational Support & Advocacy Program, including volunteer staff
- Respond to requests and assess referrals to determine how SNSC will support the person inquiring about services.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate recruitment strategies to expand and retain the number of volunteers to support all programs. Develop and implement training modules for volunteers.
Qualifications and Skills
- Knowledge of Special Education law or willingness to learn.
- Must possess a strong commitment to collaboration and effective teamwork within the organization and the broader community.
- Demonstrated experience in effective internal and external communication, collaboration, and coordination with individuals and organizations.
- Ability to manage advocacy volunteers and develop systems to increase success
- Ability to contribute to and work effectively as a member of a high functioning team.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in advocacy, program implementation and with volunteers.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people with disabilities, family members, case managers, school communities, and community organizations as needed.
- Must possess the interpersonal skills to engage individuals and families from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
- Must be able to balance the program needs with available resources.
- Ability to take positive action in solving problems, and to be able to reach out for support and assistance and offer support and assistance as needed.
- Open-minded and willing to grow on the basis of emerging information.

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
