Kansas Neurological Institute
The Kansas Neurological Institute (KNI) is an intermediate care facility offering support to over 125 residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. KNI practices a person-centered philosophy to support our residents so they can have the quality of life they deserve by recognizing their individuality, honoring their choices, protecting and maintaining their health, helping to build and maintain their relationships with others, and making sure that they are included in every aspect of their lives; in their homes, in their jobs, and in the community.
KNI has 20 homes with direct support staff assisting with daily living activities in each home throughout four buildings and is located on a large campus, east of the VA hospital in Topeka. KNI is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.
About the Position:
This position leads and supervises members of a self-directed work team providing direct services to individuals residing at KNI. They ensure that the environment facilitates learning and promotes meaningful lives and they serve as a role model for staff. They will maintain frequent, positive interactions with staff and individuals living at KNI, assist staff in development and implementation of personal lifestyle plans, provide feedback to staff, and help staff develop quality Personalized Lifestyle Design plans. They ensure staff provides appropriate person-centered supports and services. They will also ensure the home environment is maintained, clean and safe for individuals living in the home, and that residents have access to necessary assistive devices and that those devices are in good working condition.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- One year of experience in direct care
- A high school diploma/GED
- Must stay current on CPR, KNI risk management procedures and proper lifting techniques
- Must keep CNA and CMA licenses current
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license in order to operate a state vehicle or to transport individuals living at KNI.
- Six months experience working directly with people with developmental disabilities and/or 6 months supervisory experience
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen
