What are the responsibilities and job description for the M&A Associate position at The Stepping Stones Group?
The M&A Associate will sit in The Stepping Stones Group’s fast-growing Strategy Office, and will initially report to the Senior Vice President, Strategy, with an expectation that you will coordinate on a day-to-day basis with the M&A Manager.
The Stepping Stones Group has grown significantly in the last several years, both organically and through the addition of over 15 acquisitions to its platform. In this newly created position, the M&A Associate will work closely with the mergers & acquisitions (M&A) teams to (i) support initial new deal evaluation; (ii) help to manage day-to-day deal process execution; and (iii) collaborate closely with internal and external partners on all matters related to M&A and post-merger integration.
Role Description & Responsibilities:
- Working closely with the Senior Vice President of Strategy and M&A Manager, serve as a key participant on the internal M&A deal team, including new deal evaluation, due diligence, and post-merger integration planning
- Evaluate initial information received from potential acquisition targets and support evaluations of business fit, financial / operational trends, and valuation
- Draft and communicate questions to potential acquisition targets
- Analyze and summarize information in order to make recommendations to the M&A team and other internal stakeholders on valuation and strategy
- Establish standard frameworks, scorecards, key questions and information requests for acquisition evaluation
- Working alongside the M&A Manager, help drive day-to-day M&A process coordination and execution
- Track M&A activity in relevant markets to inform current industry trends and valuations
- Commitment to customer service throughout all work both externally with acquisition targets and internally with key stakeholders
Preferred Candidate Background:
- 3 years of experience in investment banking and/or private equity
- At least 1-2 years of experience specifically in mergers and acquisitions
- Strong analytical thinking
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proven problem-solving skill set
- Deep experience analyzing, interpreting, and summarizing data to drive business decisions
- Skilled in coordinating and executing long-term projects
- Team player who excels in a collaborative environment
