The Educational Services Supervisor coordinates the provision of educational services and resources to cadets and those enrolled in the distance learning program, including dual language supports. Provides instructional coaching and curriculum policy guidance to College for Officer Training staff and officers.
STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
- Coordinate provision of appropriate educational support to all students in the traditional campus program as well as the distance learning program. Service provision can be given directly by the person in the position, by other on-campus personnel or through a contracted service provider from off-campus. These services could include academic coaching, writing/editing assistance, intensive tutoring, ESL courses, and language translation.
- Provide a preliminary academic readiness report for each cadet or distance learning student to the Director of Curriculum, Assistant Director of Curriculum and Distance Learning Program coordinator. Preparation of this report includes reading transcripts, deciphering assessment results and grading entry-level writing assignments.
- Determine appropriate academic support needed for each student, including cadets and distance learning participants. Create an approved accommodations plan to be shared with instructors once supports have been finalized for each student.
- Assist in facilitating these supports in-classroom on -campus or virtually as requested by CFOT instructors (i.e. proctor tests, provide appropriate fidgets, etc.) Assist Distance Learning Students in reporting accommodations or requesting them through processes established by the outside institutions they are enrolled in.
- Regularly review academic progress of all cadets and Distance Learning participants to provide additional supports needed.
- Serve as an academic advisor for all cadets placed on academic concern or probation.
- Assist with Strategies for CFOT Success seminar in cadet orientation.
- Teach basic writing and study skills courses in the Fall Quarter.
- Facilitate a regular weekly open study session in all quarters.
- Assist Director of Curriculum and Assistant Director of Curriculum in the assignment of cadet course exemptions and independent studies. Research viable Independent Study options. Serve as an Independent Study advisor for assigned cadets.
- Serve as primary resource person for citation style, plagiarism checking, and other stylistic policies related to cadet assignments.
- Serve as primary contact person with the IT department when there are technology learning related needs for a cadet.
- Serve as primary contact person with assigned therapists for academic needs of cadets enrolled in the Cadet Support Program.
- Prepare requested documentation related to academic status for Cadet Review Council or Officer Review Board.
INSTRUCTOR COACHING & CURRICULUM POLICY GUIDANCE
- Conduct orientation for all new officer instructors upon arrival to CFOT.
- Provide multiple training opportunities for teaching faculty.
- Create templates for use by teaching instructors, including quarterly syllabi drafts, assignment descriptions, rubrics, etc.
- Review all quarterly syllabi drafts and work with instructors to improve before submission to the Assistant Director of Curriculum.
- Create a quarterly due dates calendar to determine the cadet workload and flow is balanced – suggest due date changes accordingly.
- Observe instructors and provide feedback to improve teaching style.
- Assist instructors in developing clear assignment descriptions and rubrics and in the crafting of effective student feedback when grading.
- Assist instructors in use and maintenance of online Learning Management System, including providing initial on-boarding and on-going training.
- Serve as primary contact person with the IT department when there are technology learning related needs for an instructor.
- Create and administer quarterly course evaluations. Prepare a report for the Director of Curriculum to address any concerns, including recommending instructor or course changes needed.
- Maintain repository of past teaching documents and notes for each course.
- Serve on the Academic Coordination committee as a general resource person.
- With Director of Curriculum, review and maintain the annual Instructor Guidelines document.
LANGUAGE SUPPORT SERVICES
- With the Spanish Training Director, determine and provide appropriate supports needed for students for whom English is not their primary language.
- Maintain all translation equipment.
- Coordinate translation services for all courses and scheduled seminars.
- Arrange for translation of course documents, as needed.
- Assist cadets, instructors, and IT department in use of technology for language supports.
- Assist in providing Spanish translation for courses or seminars.
- Advocate for and support cadets who want to take courses in English by providing supports in Spanish.
LIBRARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise the campus library
- Assist with annual and periodic resource inventories
- Assist with soliciting resource recommendation from instructors
- Responsible for the purchase of books, periodicals, newspapers, and audiovisual materials according to an established budget
GENERAL DUTIES
- Assist the Department Administrative Assistant/Registrar and other department members with the purchase, care, use and storage of resources not located in the library resource center.
- Develop relationships with Salvation Army college faculty in other territories to coordinate services and share resources.
- Participate in cadet orientation activities, as assigned.
- Assist in the annual update and revision of the campus manual curriculum department sections.
Education & Experience:
Undergraduate college degree in Education or a related field required, Master’s degree preferred
3 years of experience in a related position
Experience teaching or working with adult learners or training instructors is preferred
A high level of professional fluency in the Spanish language required

Supervisory Responsibility:
Responsible for the supervision of assigned cadets, including grading and evaluation. Primary manager for Library Supervisor and all library staff.
