Due to an internal promotion, the Town of Woodstock has a rare and exciting opening for the Deputy Director of Public Works position. With a new title and a refreshed job description, the department is setting itself up for an increase in park maintenance, multiple large projects on the horizon, and a need for long term planning and creativity as they seek to achieve greater results with current resources.
The ideal candidate will be well-versed in the wide variety of departmental functions, including water and wastewater treatment and distribution, stormwater management, and related public works operations of the town, with significant, well-rounded experience in public works and local government best practices. The candidate will be able to comprehend the technical details of departmental operations and have an approach of innovative service delivery and cross-departmental collaboration. The ideal candidate will be well-written and well-spoken in a variety of public situations and will be able to give examples of how they have led important organizational initiatives and projects in the public sector. Our ideal candidate will have strong leadership and management skills and have a demonstrated ability to motivate a team towards strategic goals, and lead through a commitment to organizational values.
The Town of Woodstock offers an excellent benefit package, including full coverage of employee health insurance, and partial coverage for a dependent or family. In addition, the Town participates in a 457 deferred compensation plan, Virginia Retirement System (a defined benefit program), term life insurance, educational assistance, AFLAC, and competitive leave (vacation, sick, maternity/paternity, funeral, etc.). Employees with certification requirements can continue to maintain professional standards through continued training and education, and employees can receive additional compensation when degrees, licenses, certifications, or other special skills are obtained during employment with the Town. The salary range for this FLSA exempt position is $65,508 - $104,813, with a hiring range expected between $65,508 and $85,161. Offer is commensurate with experience and special qualifications.
