In this Accounts Payable Supervisor role (internally known as the Assistant Director of Disbursements), you will have overall responsibility for managing the disbursement and accounts payable functions to ensure compliance with tax regulations, Foundation policies and procedures, and responsible stewardship practices. You will communicate directly with Foundation and University staff to ensure timely and efficient remittances and disbursements within these fiduciary responsibilities. As the leader for the Disbursements department, you will be responsible for training University and Foundation staff in areas of responsibility to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
Note that the position has a hybrid work schedule and you will only be required to report to the office in Storrs one day per week.
Primary Responsibilities
Manages the Disbursement staff responsible for processing disbursement requests and associated reporting to University and Foundation staff. Performs departmental managerial review, ensures that sufficient funds are available for requested expenditures, and provides approval of disbursement requests within policy guidelines.
Facilitates appropriate use of funds by University departments in support of University and departmental objectives. Exercises sound judgment in applying policies and regulations to specific transaction requests, addresses problems, and communicates with University and Foundation staff.
Reviews and updates internal policies and procedures for compliance with Foundation and University policies. Verifies control procedures have been followed including signature protocols and purchasing guidelines.
Manages complex 'Request for Disbursements' (RFD’s) through to resolution. Ensures that RFDs and scholarship reimbursements are processed in a timely and systematic manner.
Serve as central point of contact for coordinating responses to inbound department inquiries, directing the inquiries to the appropriate staff members and/or escalating where warranted.
Serves as liaison for internal and external auditors for transactions related to funds and disbursements.
Serves on cross-functional teams to improve and document processes and controls.
Manages accurate and timely reporting to various Foundation and University staff in the areas of disbursements and fund administration (i.e. quarterly equipment report, taxable compensation reporting, and fund usage).

Experience and Skills
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree (accounting or finance preferred) or in place of a degree, 8 years of relevant work experience. 4 years of accounts payable, accounting, or other related experience.
Supervisory experience and management of high-volume workflow.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (i.e., Outlook, Word, and Excel) and accounting systems (i.e Financial Edge/FENXT). Demonstrated ability to work in multiple system environments.
