Position Title
Position Summary / Career Interest:
Under the supervision of the nursing department’s management, the RN assumes the responsibility for the nursing processes of assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation needed to deliver safe, evidence based care within their scope of practice.
Position Description:
- Collects and assesses initial and on-going data about the health status of the patient.
- Initiates and/or revises an individualized plan of care that includes immediate and long-term outcomes for the patient/family and reflects the plan of the entire health care team.
- Carries out interventions safely and in compliance with policy to facilitate achievement of expected outcomes.
- Evaluates patient response to intervention/therapy based upon expected outcomes.
- Provides patient education by explaining procedures, medications and giving instructions at a level the patient can understand; addresses patient’s questions and concerns; verifies patient informed consent when indicated.
- Documents and communicates all required components of patient care.
- Provides care to acutely and critically ill patients, in a highly technical and ongoing monitoring environment.
- Utilizes Intensive Care Hemodynamic Monitoring in a manner which optimizes patient outcomes.
- Utilizes intensive care technology including but, not limited to, Continuous Renal Replacement, Continuous Cardiac Output, Intra Aortic Balloon Pumps and Induced Hypothermia Devices .
- Ability to rapidly assess and treat potential complications of Invasive Heart Surgery such as cardiac tamponade and rapidly occurring arrhythmias.
- Able to serve as a resource person for the large variety of critically ill patients whom can present to the Intensive Care Unit.
- Effective at coordination of care amongst the wide variety of specialties and interdisciplinary associates.

- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current state nursing licenses or RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact.

Requirements GB Labor and Delivery
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice required.
- Knowledge of principles, methods and techniques involved in performing general nursing services and adapting or modifying standards of nursing practices for care of specific medical cases.
- Current RN licensure in the State of Kansas or has work permit from the State Board of Nursing.
- ACLS
- Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) within six months.
- Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) within one year of employment
- PALS within 6 months of employment.
- BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment.
Requirements GB Inpatient Nursing
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Prior experience in specialty field preferred.
- Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Kansas or has work permit from the State Board of Nursing
- BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment.
- ACLS certification required within 6 months of employment.
Requirements HMC ER
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN required or must obtain within 4 years of employment).
- Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice required.
- Knowledge of principles, methods and techniques involved in performing general nursing services and adapting or modifying standards of nursing practices for care of specific medical cases.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Kansas or has work permit from the State Board of Nursing.
- BLS within the first two weeks of employment
- ACLS certification must be completed within 90 days of employment.
- TNCC and ENPC required within one year of employment or following initial orientation.
Requirements HMC Heart Cath Lab
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN required or must obtain within 4 years of employment).
- Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice.
- As of April 1, 2016: Cardiac Rhythms class required or must complete within six months of employment.
- Knowledge of principles, methods and techniques involved in performing general nursing services and adapting or modifying standards of nursing practices for care of specific medical cases.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Kansas or has work permit from the State Board of Nursing.
- BLS within 2 weeks of employment.
- ACLS certification required or must complete after six months of meeting base competencies.
Requirements at HMC Nursing ICU
- Current Kansas Registered Nurse License
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or must have plan to obtain BSN approved by chief nursing officer; in some cases, the chief nursing officer may approve experience or certifications as a substitute for BSN requirement.
- Knowledge of general nursing and practice required.
- Cardiac Rhythms class required or must complete within six months of employment.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Kansas.
- ACLS certification required or must complete after six months of meeting base competencies
- BLS certification required or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment.
- As of April 1, 2016: Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) or six hours of trauma education (pre-approved by the trauma director) within two years of employment.
- Must maintain current TNCC or TCAR every four years or six hours of trauma education (pre-approved by trauma director) annually.
- Experience/education in care of open heart population and/or continuous renal replacement therapy; knowledge of principles, methods and techniques involved in performing general nursing services and adapting or modifying standards of nursing practices for care of specific medical cases.
- New nurses with less than one year experience in the residency program required to completed within 18 months.
Requirements HMC CPCU
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Kansas or has work permit from the State Board of Nursing.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or must have plan to obtain BSN approved by chief nursing officer; in some cases, the chief nursing officer may approve experience or certifications as a substitute for BSN requirement.
- Knowledge of general nursing and practice.
