Scope of Job
To plan, develop, and execute initiatives and projects designed to improve academic/learning for students in the assigned Learning Center programs and in relation to the collaborating academic unit(s). Responsible for coordinating and carrying out the day-to-day activities of assigned initiatives or projects, identifying relevant stakeholders and collaborative partners, and making recommendations for future planning and innovation.

Description of Duties
  • Manages the daily operations of the Learning Center tutorial centers, peer collaborative learning programs, and coaching at the departmental level.
  • Assists in strategic planning – determining student needs, conducting review of literature to share best practices and innovative ideas intentionally designed to support our student population.
  • Participates in the development and oversight of short and long-term plans for the office, including the establishment of (program/s and department) annual goals and objectives; provides follow-up to monitor progress toward those goals and objectives.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Director, Program Managers and/or UTRGV faculty and staff to co-design effective student learning support programs.
  • Serves as a coordinator for the assessment and evaluation of departmental level program data and the Comprehensive Assessment Plan; analyzes data, makes recommendations for improvement, and documents as needed. Facilitates the implementation of suggested improvements documented in the program level actions plans and Comprehensive Assessment Plan for the upcoming year.
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of initiatives and services to provide academic coaching, tutoring, and learning resources.
  • Assists with communication and relationship building with academic departments and colleges as well as serves on committees and working groups to represent the department at the institutional level.
  • Assists in promoting awareness, planning activities, and coordinating programs that promote student engagement and student success including the coordination of special assignments, website updates, and design and development of marketing materials, monthly newsletters and communication with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Assists the Executive Director in collaboration with other department leadership in preparing, analyzing, and monitoring budgets, merit pay recommendations, as well as assisting during the interviewing/hiring process.
  • Assists in report preparation, writing for high-level administrators and in responding to official inquiries. Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications, as well as implementation and evaluation of awarded grant/external funding projects.
  • Assists and participates in conference presentations and publications and conducts educational presentations on campus regarding the Learning Center programs and initiatives.
  • Provides support to Learning Center programs as deemed necessary.
  • Provides and documents educative support, case management, and appropriate referral of students identified as needing such support.
  • Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships with internal/external departments/agencies and other organizations associated with and/or related to Learning Center programs/initiatives.
  • Supervises assigned staff. This position is responsible for meeting regularly with direct reports, implementing professional development plans, conducting annual evaluations, and providing support for their work.
  • Coordinates and oversees special projects for the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Preferred Education
Master’s degree from an accredited university.

Required Experience
  • Three (3) years of experience performing closely related duties, including researching best practices, academic program planning/coordination, policy oversight and/or related experience, or
  • Two (2) years of experience performing closely related duties, including researching best practices, academic program planning/coordination, policy oversight and/or related experience and a Master’s degree in a related discipline.

Preferred Experience
Demonstrated experience as a strategist in program development, implementation, and evaluation. Experience in working in an academic setting alongside faculty, teaching, tutoring, or presentation and workshop design and implementation; experience working with bilingual students; experience performing tasks related to the duties stated.

Equipment
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment.

Other
Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Must be highly organized, goal-oriented, task-oriented, have excellent communication and time management skills, must have the ability to work well with others in a team as well as the ability to work independently on specified tasks. Must have excellent skills in project management and task completion. Must have experience using Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Power Point, and the use of general computer hardware/software.
