Job Product: Student understanding of art that furthers the development of character and intellect.
General Purpose: The elementary art teacher supports our school mission by helping children learn to appreciate art, understand the elements of art, and create art especially by learning and applying the basics of drawing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrates subject matter knowledge
- Methods and approaches used for drawing: aesthetics of form and space including linear perspective, proportion, volume, composition, line and line quality
- Elements of art and the principles of design
- Methods, materials, and techniques unique to drawing
- Theories of artistic creativity and aesthetics, philosophies of prominent artists and art education
- Art criticism; concepts of style and stylistic change
- Artistic development in children and adolescents
- Major developments, periods, and artists in Western traditions in art and architecture
- Art interpretation and theory
Faithfully implements curriculum
Manages classroom climate and operation
Promotes achievement
Meets professional responsibilities
Other duties and responsibilities as needed or assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Have a minimum of a bachelor's degree
- Commitment to, and passion for, helping students achieve success
- Willingness to learn and contribute to a high performing team
Experience:
Prior teaching experience preferred but not required
Salary Range:
$38,000 $40,000 per year, based on ESSA qualifications; eligible for merit pay up to $2,000.
