The Weitz Company is seeking a Staff Accountant II to be located out of our West Palm Beach, FL office.
The Staff Accountant II is responsible for compiling financial data to assist in the preparation of payroll process or financial statements and reports. Function areas in this role will be determined based upon assigned responsibilities, but may include: payroll preparation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger transactions, accruals, fixed assets and project accounting. The Staff Accountant II typically reports to the Accounting Manager.
What You'll Do:
- Respond to and perform audits, as directed
- Create cost codes, manage work orders and cost packages, reconcile vendor payment summary and prepare cost reporting for assigned project(s)
- Prepare monthly progress billings for clients
- Create monthly account balance reconciliations
- Verify invoice extensions, discount information, sales tax, payable and retainage information prior to payment processing; distribute vendor payments
- Report hours for payroll processing; balance hours with customer billings and validate cost codes
- Analyze bank report activity; summarize daily reports for management review
- Create payment groups, print checks and submit wire transfers
- Complete payroll processing for assigned salary employees
- Maintain system employee records, including updates to benefits, employment status changes and compensation adjustments
- Complete and submit federal and state tax reports, states unemployment reports and payments, tax deposits, and other reports and payments within established deadlines
- Other duties and projects as assigned
What We're Looking For:
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each previously stated duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary to succeed in this role.
- Education: A bachelor’s degree is required in a related field.
- Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of accounting and invoice experience is strongly preferred.
- Skills: A qualified candidate will demonstrate initiative, independent judgment, analytical, verbal and written communication, problem solving and good typing skills (to include 10-key). They should also demonstrate strong attention to detail, accuracy, ability to prioritize and forethought of when to seek assistance.
- Technology: Proficiency in basic computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Outlook, with the ability to complete advanced functions in Excel (i.e. pivot tables, vlookup, formulas). Employee should have the ability to learn other specific software (JDE, electronic filing system, etc.) and the interplay between the designated job costing system.
