What will you do?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Patent Agent to join our Bioproduction Group supporting all types of instruments related to the BioProduction business including its single-use fermenters, bioreactors, and mixers as well as process controllers, centrifuges, cell therapy systems and related. You will closely partner with R&D, product management, and in- and out-licensing functions, as well as other team members supporting this business, to identify and capture new innovation, draft and prosecute patent applications, provide freedom-to-operate and landscape analyses, perform competitor analyses, and to run a large, global IP portfolio in order to strengthen and protect Thermo Fisher’s position as a market leader in bioproduction. How will you get here?

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience in invention harvesting, patent preparation and prosecution, portfolio development, and prior art and patent searching
  • A degree in mechanical engineering or similar field and software experience preferred;
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and interpersonal, a collaborative instinct, and a high level of initiative
  • Two or more years of experience preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications (writing samples will be requested) in the mechanical arts
  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in engineering or related field;
  • Experience with biology and biochemistry related production processes strongly preferred;
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate IP matters with colleagues in R&D/business and the ability to form effective relationships
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects at once
  • Innovative and self-motivated to provide the highest level of service to the business (get the job done) with speed and accuracy
  • Must have a creative and strategic approach and ability to challenge the status quo including wanting to find a better way
