The Production Coordinator will join Thornton’s Production Coordination and Technical Services teams responsible for producing 550 annual events across 8 Thornton venues and multiple additional third-party venues both on-campus and off.
The Production Coordinator will play a critical role as principle coordinator for all events presented by Thornton’s Popular Music, Studio Guitar, Jazz Studies, Music Production, Music Industry, and Scoring programs. This traffic is largely presented in the Carson Soundstage, Zaro Family Songwriter’s Theater, MUS Guitar Studio, and TMC Jazz Studio. The position is the communications point person between artists and the teams assigned to support those particular activities. They hire, train, and supervise a student crew designated to provide house, stage, and other forms of concert assistance. The position will work very closely with the Production Technical Services Manager and contractors hired to provide audio, video, and lighting support. Occasionally, the position will provide coverage or added support to Production colleagues and/or events presented by the other programs of the school.
The Coordinator is a member of the School’s Emergency Response Team and will train student crews on evacuation and emergency response protocols as well as manage emergency response for those concerts where on site concurrently.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
PRODUCTION/CONCERT COORDINATION
- Coordinates concert needs between artists and production teams including creating stage plots, input lists, basic lighting expectations, and show flow for all dress rehearsals, sound checks, and concerts/recitals.
- Coordinates additional individual event needs including tunings, cartage, and other artistic requirements for events assigned.
- Will “call the show” where specific cues are assigned. Otherwise, responsible for on time start of show, intermission time management (where applicable), and end of night.
- Provides Entry/Door Control and/or House Management as assigned.
- Provides support to additional large-scale events as assigned.
- Provides additional coordination coverage as needed.
- Provides advanced or specialized expertise to support faculty, staff, and students
- Instructs artists, students, staff, and/or faculty in use of the facilities in venues.
- Provides advice on venue setup or design, equipment acquisition or enhancement, venue operation, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Contributes to the development, implementation, and enforcement of venue and concert procedures and policies.
- Ensures compliance with health and safety standards of operation.
- Provides direction to student assistants. Assists in training. Schedules work assignments. Monitors work and provides performance feedback.
- Works with Scheduler to reserve venues to meet production support needs.
- Monitors limited procurement expenses for materials, supplies, repairs, maintenance, and project work.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or combined experience plus education preferred.
- At least three years of production support in music and/or performing arts.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Experience with Event Management Software highly desirable.
- Experience working in support of music education and/or industry highly desirable.
- Experience working in collegiate-level environment desirable.
- Experience working inside university setting preferred.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION pertinent to this specific position:
- Shifts will largely be on-site Monday-Friday with some flexibility and/or overtime during evenings and weekends during the core concert season of August-May.
During non-concert season periods (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer Breaks), shifts will be during Monday-Friday during business hours with some remote work possibilities. - This position is not eligible for fully remote work

Salary Hiring Range
The hourly base salary range for this position is $29.99 - $31.50 .
