Job Description
Position Summary
The Charitable Gift Planner will be part of a growing Charitable Giving Services team responsible for providing expertise and charitable planning solutions to donors, financial advisors, and organizational endowment partners. These solutions are often integrated within larger financial and estate planning topics such as legacy planning, retirement distribution, tax efficiency, and wealth transfer. This position typically requires travel as needed throughout the year for one-on-one customer meetings, to train advisors on chartable planning strategies, and lead presentations to educate and inspire generosity. The position also requires collaboration across Thrivent’s advice, distribution, and generosity partners to achieve Thrivent Charitable’s goals pertaining to fundraising, grantmaking, and customer satisfaction. For Gift Planners who are also attorneys, their legal skills will continue to be relevant and used in their daily work.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Charitable Gift Planner will:
- Maintain and grow subject matter expertise on planned giving, legacy planning, financial planning, tax issues, and all facets of gift planning instruments, including charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, life insurance gifts, beneficiary designation and bequests.
- Educate and advise financial professionals, donors, and endowment partners of Thrivent Charitable’s planned giving and generosity services and offerings.
- Provide thought leadership to clients, advisors and organizations to guide charitable planning and secure planned and deferred gifts.
- Lead key client-loyalty and engagement strategies across Thrivent Charitable’s customers (Advisors, Donors, Organizational Endowment partners). This includes client management with independent financial advisor practices, from client prospecting and cultivation to relationship and account management to estate administration with successor generations. This also includes donor engagement strategy, offerings and programs, policies and procedures, and ongoing evaluation of services.
- Lead due diligence processes and decisions towards acceptance of complex assets such as closely held stock, real estate and limited or general partnerships.
- Inspire donors to support charities in a variety of ways through a values-based planning approach.
- Prepare illustrations, related disclosure materials, and tax packets for life-income producing gifts (charitable gift annuities and charitable trusts).
- Implement and refine workflows to ensure planned gifts are processed timely and accurately.
- Learn and effectively use Thrivent Charitable’s software, systems and process software.
- Assist Thrivent Charitable leaders and staff with other projects and duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience required in planned giving, development, sales, or related fields. J.D., MBA or other relevant advanced degree or experience preferred.
- Experience working with data management systems (working knowledge of PG Calc and Stellar Iphi a plus).
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 particularly Microsoft Excel; experience with pivot tables and other more advanced functions is highly desirable.
- Ability to work on everyday details with an eye towards long-term strategy.
- Strong problem solving and creative skills. Ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a time sensitive environment, maintain attention to detail/quality, and handle confidential information with discretion.
Work Environment
The Charitable Gift Planner must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment as well as work both independently and part of a team framework to deliver a seamless customer experience. This role is flexible as a virtual work role with provisional on-site time.
