Our Courthouse Facilitator is responsible for providing a broad spectrum of legal information and technical assistance to self-represented individuals in dissolution, legal separation, paternity actions, child support modifications/adjustments, parenting plan modificiations, actions for contempt/enforcement of orders, petitions for visitation/custody by third party cases. Work assignments require specialized administrative and paralegal work on all family law matters and extensive expertise in complex divorce issues and court operations.
The facilitator is responsible for:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining procedures, instructions, pleadings, informational brochures and other materials related to the facilitator program.
- Works Independently in accordance with general directions interprets and applies court rules, statues and rules of procedure.
- Serves as a community liaison and referral for self-represented individuals, court personnel, internal and external agencies.
- High school diploma or GED, paralegal certification, and five years experience in court procedures and processes are required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. Formal course work and working knowledge of human behavior, family dynamics and domestic violence; and cultural diversity is essential.
- Working knowledge of statutes, court rules, court procedures and processes in all aspects of domestic relations law; the court system, including roles and responsibilities of court departments and related agencies, key players, and case flow.
- Ability to utilize a computer and applicable software applications including word processing and database management to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
- Must possess exceptional oral and written communication skills to be able to disseminate complex legal information to litigants of various education and social levels. Possesses advanced interviewing skills and techniques and adept in handling crisis situations and volatile clients.
