Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Tidewater Community College seeks applications for two (2) Outreach Advisor positions, one position will support our Portsmouth Campus and one position will support our Norfolk Campus.
The Outreach Advisor will provide proactive outreach and support to prospective students with the goal of making a positive impact on the college’s enrollment. This position is designed to interact with prospective students both in person and virtually to provide advising and support to encourage enrollment. This role also involves collaborating with the Student Resource Empowerment Center to facilitate students’ access to community resources and Single Stop services. Also will aid students in achieving educational and career goals through the use of the full range of institutional and community resources. Planned activities are executed to recruit new students and promote Tidewater Community College to external constituencies with particular focus on area high schools.
These are restricted funded positions.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Demonstrated ability to provide higher education-related academic and career counseling.
- Working knowledge of academic requirements for high school and community colleges, career opportunities, and qualifications and knowledge of counseling theories and techniques.
- Ability to develop positive working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, the general public, and educational institutions.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with student retention strategies and initiatives.
- Knowledge of and belief in the mission of a comprehensive community college, particularly as it relates to advising and student support services.
- Demonstrated understanding of student assessment, education and career planning, registration and retention principles and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, collect, interpret, analyze, and manage data.
- Ability to work in an enterprise software environment (CRM) in which all activity is expected to be logged and tracked.
- Demonstrated ability to create and present information to various and diverse audiences.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to deliver high level customer service and maintain positive attitude in a high-volume service environment.
- Demonstrated ability to promote collaboration and teamwork in a student-centered environment.
- Skilled in the use of personal computers to input data and interpret findings from student records.
- Knowledge of software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience working with a variety of people in an advisory or counseling capacity.
- Experience working in an advisory or counseling capacity in higher education/high school.
- Experience working in a high-volume customer service environment
- Experience working in a CRM environment

Salary : $38,894 - $46,200
