What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hand Therapy Technician position at Tidewater Orthopaedic Associates?
POSITION SUMMARY: The Full-Time Hand Therapy Tech interacts with senior management, peers, clients, families, visitors, clinic staff and practice personnel. He/she carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands on intervention/participation may be required. The Hand Therapy Tech is responsible for providing support/assistance to the therapists and assistants in their treatment of patients, under their direct supervision and in accordance with practice’s policies and procedures and state and federal (Medicare) rules and regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Is responsible for assisting the therapists in the treatment of non-Medicare patients, under the therapists’ direct supervision, including but not limited to the following:
- Retrieving hot packs and/or cold packs.
- Setting up exercise machines as necessary for each individual non-Medicare patient.
- Monitoring exercise repetitions/form as requested by the therapists for non-Medicare patients.
- Cleaning up after patients and therapists as necessary
- Is responsible for adhering to work schedules, which are created to maximize hours of patient care and patient volume, therefore, schedules may vary from day to day depending on patient need, including early morning hours and evening hours depending on clinic.
- If occasionally requested to assist at a clinic other than your base clinic, you will comply unless extenuating circumstances prohibit you from doing so.
- If unable to report to work at your scheduled time, you will contact your Clinic Manager by phone as far in advance as possible to allow time to arrange for coverage, if necessary.
- All time off must be requested in writing and submitted to the Clinic Manager as far in advance as possible, no later than 2 weeks prior, in order to allow time to arrange for coverage, if necessary
- Is responsible for adhering to practice’s policies and procedures pertaining to customer service and patient care, including but not limited to:
- Greeting each patient in a friendly and enthusiastic manner, answering the phone enthusiastically with the standard practice greeting as needed.
- Dressing professionally in uniform of khaki pants and polo style shirt.
- Being prompt and professional
- Is responsible for doing laundry and ensuring towels, gowns, etc. are clean, folded and put away in the appropriate place, rooms are stocked at all times appropriately
- Is responsible for continually cleaning plinths, equipment, etc. after each patient use
- Is responsible for attending monthly clinic staff meetings or if unable to attend, he/she is responsible for obtaining a copy of the written agenda from the Clinic Director
- Is responsible for maintaining accurate times for work in web time clock system and submitting missed punches within 24 hours
- Is responsible for promoting all practice products and services whenever possible
- Performs other related duties as requested as well as assisting front desk as needed
Education and Experience:
- The Rehab Tech position requires a minimum of a high school diploma.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must possess the ability to positively interact with personnel, family members, visitors, physicians, and the general public.
- CPR certification preferred but not required.
Physical Demand:
Frequently standing, walking and sitting. Ability to pull, lift, carry and push greater than 150lbs repetitive. Frequent stooping, kneeling, balancing, climbing and balancing. 95% of work will be performed inside with noise and/or vibrations. No extreme heat, cold, wet or humid work environment. Repetitive physical and verbal interaction with patients.
