U.S. Data Security (“USDS”) is a standalone entity of TikTok in the U.S. This new security-first division was created to bring heightened focus and governance to our data protection policies and content assurance protocols to keep U.S. users safe. Our focus is on providing oversight and protection of the TikTok platform and user data in the U.S., so millions of Americans can continue turning to TikTok to learn something new, earn a living, express themselves creatively, or be entertained. The teams within USDS that deliver on this commitment daily span Trust & Safety, Security & Privacy, Engineering, User & Product Ops, Corporate Functions and more.

With a commitment to excellence, innovation, and safety, we are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic leader to join our team as the Head of Protective Services, Criminal Investigations, and TSCM.

As the United States Data Security Head of Protective Services, Criminal Investigations, and TSCM, you will play a critical role in safeguarding U.S. persons data; and USDS staff, offices, and brand & reputation. Reporting directly to the U.S. Data Security Head of Physical Security & Investigations, you will lead a team responsible for overseeing protective security operations, managing internal and external physical threats, conducting criminal investigations, and overseeing technical surveillance countermeasures (TSCM) to help ensure the protection of U.S. data.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive security strategy aligned with USDS goals and objectives.
  • Provide expert guidance to senior management on security risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to Protective Services, Criminal Investigations, and TSCM security.
2. Security Operations:
  • Manage a team of close protection security professionals for a range of diverse potential assignments at offices, residences, and/or special events
  • Tactical expertise in responding to exigent threats or emergencies (e.g., workplace violence, major medical incidents).
  • Oversee security vendor relationships and contracts to ensure effectiveness and cost-efficiency.
  • Oversee budgets, headcount planning, performance reviews, and QBRs of direct reports and contractors.
  • Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, checklists, post orders, and protocols.
  • Have working knowledge of TSCM equipment and best practices at offices, special events venues, and/or datacenters.
3. Criminal Investigations:
  • Lead and coordinate criminal investigations, including workplace, theft, criminal threats, organized transnational crimes that may involve U.S. users, etc.
  • Work with law enforcement agencies, legal counsel, and other cross functional teams as necessary.
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards and legal compliance.
4. Threat Assessment and Risk Management:
  • Conduct physical threat assessments to identify potential risks to personnel, offices, or special events.
  • Implement risk mitigation strategies, threat response plans, and crisis management plans.
  • Monitor emerging security trends, ongoing security threats, and adapt strategies accordingly.
5. Training and Awareness:
  • Develop and deliver security training programs to employees and contractors.
  • Promote a culture of security awareness and vigilance across the organization.
Qualifications

6. Budget Management:
  • Develop and manage your team’s annual budget and headcount, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
  • Monitor expenditures and identify opportunities for cost savings.
In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8 years of management experience in corporate security, law enforcement, or a related field.
  • Prior strong track record of creating, implementing, scaling, and leading protective services and investigations programs.
  • Former military and/or law enforcement experience, a plus.
  • Prior experience with RFPs, contracts, vendor management, purchase requisitioning, invoicing, QBRs required.
  • Proven track record of hiring employees and contractors; leading security teams; and managing investigations.
  • Strong knowledge of security best practices and industry standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to make critical decisions under pressure and work cross-collaboratively (e.g., with Legal, HR, Communications) in a large enterprise.
  • Professional certifications such as CPP, CFE, a plus.

Job Information
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $118800 - $269800 annually.



Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

Our time off and leave plans are: 10 paid holidays per year plus 17 days of Paid Personal Time Off (PPTO) (prorated upon hire and increased by tenure) and 10 paid sick days per year as well as 12 weeks of paid Parental leave and 8 weeks of paid Supplemental Disability.
