JOB TITLE: Sanitation Worker

DEPARTMENT: Sanitation

REPORTS TO: Sanitation Supervisor

SUMMARY:

The Sanitation employee is responsible for all activities involved in maintaining the cleanliness and food safe environment of the Processing facility, surrounding area and equipment. Reports to the Sanitation\ Manager and receives direction concerning sanitation activities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Disassembles and reassembles the production line and equipment as necessary for cleaning.
  • Cleans the floors of all debris and rinses thoroughly.
  • Cleans air lines and hoses that feed the lines.
  • Removes and replaces equipment as needed to accommodate production set-up requirements.
  • Sanitizes production equipment in preparation for maintenance and production set-up crews.
  • Cleans and sanitize all pieces of equipment.
  • Cleans chemical room, process floor dry goods area, restroom and other work areas.
  • Cleans wash buckets, trash cans, hand rails, and other equipment assigned by lead or manager until shift ends.
  • Removal of production waste (garbage and render) at some locations.
  • May be trained to work on a variety of equipment.
  • May be assigned additional duties which may include janitorial duties in the plant.
  • Must be able to work with sanitizing chemicals.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

· Ability to write and speak simple sentences in English.

Experience:

· Experience working in a manufacturing setting.

Special Training/Skills:

· Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to use a variety of hand tools, organize and coordinate work with others, effectively communicate jobs and assigned tasks, work under pressure, and possess basic mechanical comprehension.

Work Environment:

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

· While performing duties of this job the employee will frequently engage in teamwork. The employee will occasionally be required to use interpersonal and customer service skills. The employee will occasionally need to speak and read English.
