We are currently seeking a collaborative, results oriented professional to join our operations team as an Import Manager. This is a REMOTE position. At TLR we believe in doing anything to become the most loved and trusted provider of international services and finding team members that will help foster that vision is paramount to our success.

This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Meet and exceed operational budgets within agreed timescales, while improving or maintaining current margins; to be achieved by monitoring, measuring, and reporting all operational issues, opportunities and development plans and achievements and providing progress reports to immediate manager monthly.
  • Identify and provide early warning of likely issues and problems that could have an adverse effect on deadlines, and where possible, develop solutions to reduce the impact.
  • Plan, direct and control all import activities on a day-to-day basis by liaising with Import Supervisors.
  • Manage and develop direct reporting staff, in conjunction with performance appraisals, focus on training requirements and general development to meet business needs
  • Plan and manage departmental activities ensuring staffing levels are adequate for business fluctuations.
  • Provide effective communication with all direct reporting staff to ensure policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure that customer’s operational requirements are proactively identified and serviced. Understand customers’ profile, needs, expectations, and actively resolve any concerns/issues they have.
  • Deliver business reviews and market updates tailored to your customer that drive further collaboration between TLR and the customer.
  • Partner with Compliance Department on audits and other regulatory matters
  • Review and update operational procedures on an ongoing basis in line with company procedures, ensuring that all changes are communicated to staff ensuring that any training requirements are fully met and SOPs are updated.
  • Take overall responsibility for actions of import department; includes process improvement to prevent service failures and partner with HR to supply corrective actions as needed.
  • In accordance with billing procedures, take ownership of all accounting issues and queries, liaising with both the accounting /administration department, provide support and authorization for all queries in relation to absorbed costs, vendor/carrier invoices, and duty and tax payments (statement).
  • Ensure month end routines including KPI’s, GP reporting, etc. is consistent with company standards and is produced in a timely manner.
  • Action other ad hoc duties as required.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Licensed Customs Broker
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role (Supervisor level or higher)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with freight forwarding and/or customs brokerage
  • In depth knowledge of market trends, regulations, and compliance.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (emphasis on Excel)
  • CargoWise experience a plus
  • Must have excellent work habits; be detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal/communication and math skills are required.
  • Ability to remain calm and prioritize in high stress situations while empowering team members to meet and exceed deadlines
  • Experience with financial reporting, such as: audit, automation of reporting, budgeting/forecasting, tool creation, financial analysis, KPI reporting, financial modeling, variance analysis a plus.
