What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Baseball Coach position at TNBR Careers?
This regular, full-time (85%) position works 44 weeks per year and is responsible for assisting the head baseball coach with organizing and coaching the baseball team as assigned by head coach.
The assistant will also provide academic and student life support as well as other duties assigned within the Athletic department.
The Assistant Baseball Coach reports to the Head Baseball Coach.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides quality instruction and supervision to student-athletes in assigned areas of responsibility as directed by the head baseball coach on and off the field.
- Possess knowledge of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA), and DSCC rules and regulations pertaining to eligibility, compliance, recruiting, conduct of coaches, etc.
- Along with other athletic department personnel and the DSCC Physical Plant/Maintenance Department, assure that the baseball field (playing surface and operations) is ready when necessary for use by all teams.
- Actively encourage academic success and degree completion among student athletes.
Monitors study hall attendance (tutoring), class checks, classroom performance, and faculty progress reports for student-athletes. - Serve as an active member of the DSCC faculty/staff team.
- Assist with transport of athletic teams to and from games and tournaments.
A commercial driver license is preferred. - Assist with the supervision of team/campus/school related activities ensuring that conduct is of high standards.
- Assist with equipment inventory and maintenance.
- Assist in coordinating fund raising activities and camps following state and DSCC policies.
- Participate in the annual athletic awards program.
- Recruit and retain student-athletes.
- Serve as the website content manager for Athletics.
- Assist in the student-athlete transition upon graduating from DSCC to four-year institutions.
(transcripts, etc. ) - Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and the Vice President of External Affairs.
Working Conditions:
Restricted: Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods.
Light lifting (less than 50 lbs), walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis.
Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions.
Frequency or severity is limited. Frequent travel including overnight travel is required.

Qualifications:
The assistant coach must have reliable transportation and maintain a commercial driver's license.
Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution required.
- Three years of experience in a position that requires coaching high school or intercollegiate athletics required.
- Experience coaching pitchers in high school or intercollegiate athletics preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in a high need teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution preferred.
Maximum annual salary is $39,185.
