What are the responsibilities and job description for the TRAVEL PHLEBOTOMIST position at Toledo Clinic?
This is a Travel position and will require travel to different Toledo Clinic Lab sites in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.
General Summary of Duties:
Performs venipuncture and capillary puncture on patients.
Example of Essential Duties:
- Verifies patient/specimen identification and informs technical personnel and/or supervisor of any discrepancies.
- Asks and records pertinent information (such as hours patient has been fasting) or for drug levels records the time of the patient's last dosage.
- Obtains the proper specimen for test(s) ordered.
- Properly labels all specimens.
- Properly instructs patients on specimen collection.
- Performs bleeding time tests.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
- Knows, understands and adheres to all laboratory, Clinic and/or OSHA safety standards.
- Maintains proper inventory of phlebotomy supplies. Never allows inventory levels to be so short that supplies must be ordered STAT.
- Correctly processes requisitions which includes initialing, recording tubes drawn (if a timed draw), time stamping (if possible), and placing specimens in the appropriate location.
- May be required to witness the collection of urine samples.
- May perform venipuncture off site at either home draws, factory site draws, etc.
- Performs minor lab tests (i.e. urine dipstick, glucose and acetone, and/or STAT ESRs).
- Other duties as assigned.
Performance/Experience Requirements:
One to two years of phlebotomist experience. Knows, understands and adheres to all lab, clinic, HIPPA and /or OSHA Safety standards. Consistently arrives at work, in professional attire, on time and completes all tasks within established time frame. Seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed and assists co-workers as needed. Demonstrates adaptability to expanded roles. Adheres to all clinic policies and procedures.
Education:
Phlebotomy diploma from an accredited school required. Certified phlebotomist preferred.
