Position Announcement

Tomaquag Museum is growing, and we are looking for a new team member to join us on this journey. If you are someone who gets excited about new challenges, being a part of a transformational project, and leading others to success while motivating others to participate in that success…then this position is for you!

Tomaquag Museum is excited to pass the baton from the Executive Director to a dedicated professional who can manage and coordinate its Fund Development and Marketing programs to align with and meet its future goals. This is a position for someone who wants to gain invaluable experience in a short time while creating superior outcomes at an extraordinary organization.

Organization Overview

Tomaquag Museum is an Institute of Museum and Library Services 2016 National Medal winner. Tomaquag Museum’s mission is to educate all our relations on Indigenous cultures of the Dawnland (Southern New England) through engagement and shared dialogue to reconcile the past and empower present and future generations. The Museum is Rhode Island’s only museum dedicated to the Indigenous peoples of southern New England, particularly the federally recognized Narragansett Tribal Nation.  The Museum is well respected and is visited each year by researchers, students, and travelers from across the United States and throughout the world.

Founded in 1958, Tomaquag Museum is an independent nonprofit organization governed by a board of directors. Its funding comes from grants (state, federal, foundations), individual contributions, and program services. The 2023-2025 strategic plan outlines strategies to increase both individual philanthropy and program revenue.

Tomaquag Museum is planning a move to URI in 2026 where a new Museum & Research Center is being built on the Southwestern corner of the Campus. The capital campaign has been in the silent phase since 2022 and has raised over $6 million guided by a Campaign Manager.
