What are the responsibilities and job description for the Groom position at Tomorrow's Rainbow, Inc.?
Reporting to the Equine Services Coordinator, the Equine Groom has a multifaceted role. This includes ensuring the highest standards of care for Tomorrow’s Rainbow livestock, serving as an Equine Facilitator during bereavement support groups, and overseeing volunteer stable attendants as necessary to advance Tomorrow's Rainbow's mission. Additionally, this position involves managing and/or assisting in the upkeep, maintenance, and repairs of stable facilities and outdoor spaces used for agency services. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Equine
- Provide support to ensure that all livestock are cared for and well maintained in accordance with Animal Welfare and Tomorrow's Rainbow standards, including attending to any medical issues/emergencies and activating veterinarian services as needed in the absence of management.
- Oversight of volunteers engaging with equine and livestock to ensure optimum care and handling including grooming, and stall/paddock/turnout maintenance.
- Provide equine support during bereavement groups.
- Assist with enrichment, rotation, and gratitude to the equine/livestock team in accordance with the Equine Bill of Rights
- Be available to support Equine Services Coordinator for veterinary and farrier services when necessary.
- Responsible for horse and livestock feedings
- Work with other equine team members to support the well-being of horses and livestock.
- When necessary, address and report horse injuries, horse health and/or behavior concerns
- Maintain the therapeutic mini ranch environment for all clients and participants.
- Demonstrate Tomorrow's Rainbow core values in all equine, volunteer, and staff interactions
- Serve as an equine advocate and demonstrate proficiency during all equine/human interactions.
- Collaborate with all team members when necessary to ensure that the livestock can participate in stellar service delivery.
- Monitor and management of equine clipping calendar as well as skillfully body clipping the Tomorrow’s Rainbow herd.
Stables and Outdoor Spaces
- Maintain a clean, presentable, and safe environment in the stable area and assist with the same, in outdoor spaces utilized for the mission of Tomorrow's Rainbow.
- Report and coordinate repair needs of fences, pastures, horse stalls, therapeutic play areas, and barn to manager and assist in repairs when needed.
- Maintain stable area to ensure safety and upkeep in accordance with Animal Welfare and TR standards.
- Supervise volunteers that assist with stable facility upkeep and maintenance and assist with group service projects.
Ongoing
- Assist with corporate and civic community projects that benefit the equine operations.
- Participate as key player on inter-departmental projects as needed.
- Assist with special events for Tomorrow’s Rainbow
- Assist with photo and video content for social media and website when appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

The Equine Groom will be thoroughly committed to the mission of Tomorrow’s Rainbow. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:
- The equivalent of 3 years full time working with equine.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team.

Physical Demands
Tasks involve the intermittent performance of moderately, physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects.
