What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Assistant -PT position at Town of Flower Mound?
Under direct supervision, provides reference and reader advisory services and assists with planning and presenting Library programs. Assists patrons with using Creation Lab machines and resources, including but not limited to 3D printers, laser engravers, Cricut machines, editing software and scheduling software. Must be skilled in using a personal computer and various other office equipment, including but not limited to 3D printers, laser engravers, Cricut machines, editing software and scheduling software. •Provides reference and reader advisory services to Library patrons.
•Provides instruction and assistance in the use of the Library catalog, the Library's print and digital collections, copy and print equipment, and other resources and services.
•Assists with planning, promoting, presenting, and evaluating Library programs, including outreach services.
•Assists with the creation of displays and informational materials.
•Assists supervisor in departmental planning and preparing reports.
•Maintains an awareness of literature services and reference sources, and of public library trends, methods and ethics.
•Informs supervisor of all work activities.
•Adheres to departmental, personnel, and safety rules and regulations.
•Performs other duties as assigned.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
•A Bachelor's Degree in a related field is required.
•Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
•One (1) year of public library experience is preferred.
Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history).KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
•Able and willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekend hours.
•Knowledge of the practices and principles of public library operations.
•Excellent English communicative skills, both oral and written, to include spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
•Skilled in using a personal computer and various other office equipment.
•Must be able to maintain good relations with the public and staff and demonstrate courtesy and tact in all situations.
•Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written directives, work well under pressure and stress, handle multiple tasks, prioritize and organize work assignments, maintain a pleasant and friendly demeanor at all times.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
•Must be able to type, see, talk, hear, and write.
•Must lift up to 25 lbs. of heavy boxes, books, equipment, etc.; file and retrieve items stored on high bookshelves; stand for long periods of time; walk; bend; stoop; reach; climb; and work in confined spaces.
