What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Wastewater Driver Operator position at Town of Telluride?
SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Water and Wastewater Division Manager, operates, monitors, maintains and troubleshoots the water and wastewater treatment facilities and processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Water and Wastewater Operations and Maintenance
- Responsible for the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater plant operations and underground sewer system
- Ensures completion of work assignments within specified deadlines in compliance with Federal and State safety regulations and procedures
- Services pumps, motors, valves, generators, and other equipment
Distribution and Collection System
- Maintains distribution lines and pump stations
- Reads residential and commercial water meters; repairs meters
Driving
- Drives biosolids truck and trailer to the composting site; dispose of bio-solids at the composting site
- Tracks the application of biosolids
- Drives a variety of equipment such as forklifts and other vehicles on paved and/or uneven terrain such as hills, slopes, rocky or wet ground
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; driver’s license; one (1) to two (2) years of experience working in public works operations, maintenance, and/or construction; Commercial Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement or ability to gain within first 3 months of employment; must maintain CDL in good standing throughout employment; Class D Water and Wastewater Certification within one(1) year of employment; First Aid and CPR certification; or any equivalent training, education or experience, preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Knowledge of: working knowledge of operations, methods, and procedures of a water and wastewater treatment plant; working knowledge of the machinery used for wastewater treatment and pumping stations; mechanical equipment and ability to diagnose and correct equipment malfunction;basic knowledge of State and Federal rules governing wastewater discharges and worker safety; safe usage of chemicals used to treat water.
Skill in: learning and performing a wide range of assignments in the operation and maintenance of the Town’s water and wastewater system; working independently with little to no supervision; strong attention to detail; reading, writing, compiling, analyzing data, and reporting daily.
Environmental Factors
Essential duties of this job are performed both inside an office environment and outside under varying and adverse weather conditions with daily exposure to continuous noise, dust, allergens, chemicals, solvents, fumes, smoke, gases, grease, oil, electrical energy, and around moving vehicles. Working conditions include traveling to the composting site to dispose of biosolids that are subject to adverse weather conditions. Work performed indoors is subject to noxious odors and confined spaces and heights; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud in the production area.
Physical Factors
While performing the duties of this job, the employee performs heavy manual labor and is required to sit, stand, walk; use hands to handle, or feel, and talk or hear; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift 50 pounds.
This position is subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration drug and alcohol testing requirements.
