What are the responsibilities and job description for the STORE SECURITY position at Town Pump?
Responsible for the safety and security of the property including customers and employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs regular safety checks of the property in accordance with established procedures.
- Handles customer problems and complaints.
- Maintains a close working relationship with the Manager.
- Reports for duty well groomed and wearing the appropriate uniform. Must be well rested and alert to maintain a high degree of awareness.
- After clocking-in, checks out keys for the shift. Get a radio from the front desk and make sure that it is in working condition, with good batteries and on at all times. Must use proper radio etiquette.
- Security requirements will be as follows:
- When conducting your rounds, it is important to always maintain high visibility during your shift. Your presence will serve to put customers and employees at ease, and discourage inappropriate or criminal behavior.
- Security checks of the property (“rounds”) should be made approximately once every hour. Avoid making rounds at exact intervals (i.e. “on the hour”).
- All areas of the property need to be checked every time you make a round (interior and exterior). Barring unforeseen circumstances, the initial property sweep will be the most time consuming.
- Vary the entrances that you use and the route and direction that you take during your rounds. Don’t be predictable. Check that all entrances are secure every time you make a round.
- Pay close attention to the parking lot during exterior rounds, as well as the surrounding areas. Watch for any signs of theft or vandalism to cars or the building. Don’t be afraid to ask questions of people that you encounter during your shift who look suspicious.
- An Incident Report must be filled out immediately for all emergencies, injuries, or other related events that occur during your shift. Call the Manager when you fill out one of these reports.
- Turn in all property keys and “sign” them back in prior to leaving the store.
- Make sure to punch out on the time clock.
- The use of handcuffs, pepper spray, or other restraining devices is not permitted.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Any other projects as assigned by the Manager.

Job Specifications (Qualifications)
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Background in law enforcement or security and/or customer service is beneficial. Must have high degree of pride and integrity in job performance.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Must be able to perform basic math computations at 8th grade level.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Experience in the following software: MS Excel and MS Word.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Montana State Drivers License.
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification (training will be provided if needed).
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Ability to work various hours. Shifts will normally be during afternoon, evening, and/or graveyard hours.
