What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ironworker position at TradesPeople?
Position: Ironworker | No Per Diem
Location: Summerville, SC
This is for a two week shutdown!
Pay: Starting at $25/hour.
Schedule: SIX 12 hour shifts (72 hours per week)
Based on experience and currently held AWS certifications.
Previous experience with SHUT DOWNS is STRONGLY preferred.
Essential Functions/Duties: Including but not limited to:
- Safety is priority #1.
- Work outside, inside, and in noisy and dusty environments
- Work outdoors in all types of weather
- Work in high places, crouching, kneeling, balancing, squatting
- Must have tools of the trade
- Reaming, Bolting, Rivets, etc..
- Lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
- Must be able to wear a safety harness and tools weighing up to 70 lbs.
- Fall protection is required 100% at 6 ft. and higher
- Structural Ironworkers should be able to connect columns, beams, girders and joists using bolts or welding in place.
- Follow direction of foreman and work well with others in a team environment
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and random drug testing
- Have reliable transportation to and from work
- Good communication skills and attention to detail
- Use acetylene cutting torch
- Select cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
- Attach pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps.
- Attach load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, and chains to crane hook.
- Give directions to Crane Operator engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled, using hand signals, loudspeaker, or radio.
- Signals or gives direction to workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure the safety of workers and materials
- Set up, brace, and rig hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches.
- Splice rope and wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle.
- Coordinate the movement of equipment and materials according to visual signals and directions.
- Rate information, using standards that can be measured or checked.
- Detect, recognize, and respond to dangerous conditions or situations.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Significant travel may be required. Performs other duties as required.
- Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability before engaging in hoisting and lifting
Basic Requirements & Qualifications: Including but not limited to:
- 5 years of full-time satisfactory experience as an ironworker or structural welder
- Must have experience erecting steel and welding at min D1.1.Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly with supervisor/co-workers and understand direction from supervisor.
- Utilize basic math to calculate load weights and balance points.
- Must be able to lift 50 pound objects, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively, operate moving equipment and work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments.
