Summary:

The Corporate Safety Director is responsible for providing strong safety guidance to the safety management team as they drive the company’s safety activities in the field. This role is responsible for managing and executing the organizations initiatives for safety in the workplace in an emerging, complex, and fast paced union and non-union environment. In conjunction with the

Leadership Team this role will assist in setting the company’s corporate Safety Strategy and departmental organization for a newly created function.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate and influence others on creating a Safety Culture by changing mindset to everyone’s responsibility.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the company’s safety program, policies, and procedures.
  • Direct and collaborate with staff to successfully execute all safety initiatives.
  • Create KPI’s, department scorecard and dashboard reporting corporate wide.
  • Review and analyze root cause for accidents and other hazards. Make recommendations to resolve deficiencies and prevent future issues.
  • Oversee continued safety improvements and set annual objectives and targets. Report findings and solutions to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Develop additional ways for reducing claim costs and improving EMR.
  • Oversee OSHA 300 Logs for all Business Units. Generate reports for meeting presentations.
  • Provide recommendations and assistance, to Safety Managers, Project Managers and

Superintendents, with respect to job site hazards, employee training, new and safe equipment operation and safe material/substance utilization.

  • Ensure compliance with corporate worker’s compensation program including working with internal personnel and third-party administrators and/or legal counsel, to effectively investigate and resolve claims in an expeditious and cost-effective manner as needs arise.
  • Ensure job sites remain hazard and accident free by conducting periodic safety inspections.
  • Lead, coach and mentor safety staff and field personnel on the Corporate Safety Mission.
  • Provide support to field staff in the event of 3rd Party Site Inspections.
  • Collaborate with human resources and other departments to drive initiatives and company goals.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time. Potentially more during busy season (April – Oct).

Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • This position will directly supervise Safety Manager’s and indirectly Safety Technicians.

Education, Certifications & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Safety, Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering) or equivalent combination of education and technical experience.
  • 10 years of progressive Health & Safety experience.
  • 5 years in a Supervisory or Managerial capacity.
  • Prior Traffic, Construction or Field Safety Experience Required.
  • Above average knowledge of MS Office and Safety Reporting Software.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience working with government regulations and thorough knowledge of federal, state and local government Health & Safety regulations (OSHA, FMCSA, DOT, etc.)
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills and a desire to create solutions.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to work in sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Prior experience working under tight deadlines with changing priorities.
  • Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimum direction.
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from internal or external customers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated with a high sense of urgency.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport and effective communication with diverse levels within the company and external organizations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions with ability to deal with abstract and concrete variables.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time at a computer and use hands to finger, handle, or feel, walk, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, talk and hear. The employee is moderately required to stand and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Position will work in an office setting but will travel to off-site locations and therefore require wearing all PPE depending on circumstance which may include dust mask, safety glasses, hard hat, ear protection, safety vest and/or steel toed footwear.

Pay: $115,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
