Position Summary
The Benefits and Leave Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring our employees have a positive and rewarding experience with our benefits, wellness, and employee leave programs. This position will provide guidance and support on a wide range of benefits and leave programs while ensuring compliance will all applicable regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Benefits and Wellness Responsibilities
- Oversee administration and participate in developing strategy of U.S., Canadian, and Puerto Rico benefits programs to include medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, employee assistance programs, retirement, and other plans
- Responsible for scheduling all benefit orientation sessions for new employees[EF1]
- Present our benefits and wellness programs, in person and virtually, ensuring clarity and understanding of our offerings and options
- Evaluate industry standards and benchmarking for employee benefits and wellness programs to strengthen the company’s ability to attract and retain employees
- Develop new and enhance existing communication plans and resources to assist employees in making maximum use of available programs to facilitate overall wellbeing
- In conjunction with the HRIS Specialist, manage Transcat’s benefit enrollment system
- Maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, consultants, and vendors regarding service quality and resolution of issues
- Oversee and manage Transcat’s Calibrated Wellness Program including communication and implementation of companywide programs focused on the seven main elements of wellness: physical, intellectual, emotional, social, vocational, financial, and environmental; identify trends and best practices to optimize use of company resources with maximum impact for our employees
- Assist other HR staff by making benefits and wellness a part of the recruitment and management process, training programs, and employee experience
Leave Responsibilities
- Manage employee leave programs such as FMLA, PFL, Disability, and Workers’ Compensation
- Coordinate with the employees and managers to ensure proper documentation and approval processes are followed
- Track and maintain leave balances and benefit arrears while providing accurate reporting on a weekly basis

- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Excel
- Working knowledge of MS Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
- Excellent project planning, problem-solving, and collaboration skills
- Ability to move between leadership, management, and support partner
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, HR or other related field
- At least two years’ experience administering employee benefits and wellness program
- Strong foundational knowledge of employee leave programs
- Must be proficient with MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred
