Description

Primary Function
The Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting operations and all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for maintaining generally accepted accounting principles as well as developing practices and procedures to ensure strong financial controls in conjunction with accurate and timely financial statements. The Accountant is also responsible for supervising, managing, and coordinating the efforts of the five-member accounting team on a day-to-day basis, ensuring work is properly allocated and completed in a timely manner.

This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger/monthly financial statement preparation, various financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and the support of budget and forecast activities. The Accountant performs professional-level accounting work in the maintenance and review of fiscal records. The position requires considerable knowledge of basic accounting principles and accounting functions, job costing, work in progress, and preparing job schedules.

The compensation associated with this Full-Time Position is as follows:
Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 annually (commensurate with experience) 

Requirements

Responsible for the following duties and tasks while providing leadership to the finance team:

Overseeing and Managing Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll activities.
Maintain General ledger and prepare corresponding month-end/year-end closing entries.
Prepare and manage the preparation of monthly financial statements and related reports.
Prepare and analyze job cost reports.
Provide data and variance analysis and communicate explanations and provide recommendations to management.
Prepare Work in Progress Reports and Backlog Reports for construction projects.
Complete timely and accurate monthly and yearly closings.
Maintenance of accounting files.
Preparation/organization of various financial forms, reports, financial analysis, etc.
Develop sound financial processes and procedures and improve existing processes.
Manage firm licenses.
Knowledge of intercompany transactions.
Cash management and bank reconciliations.
Prepare and file multi-state sales and use tax.
Drive efficiency through the use of technology.
Provide support to Human Resources Department when necessary.

Job Qualifications

5-10 years of proven experience as an Accountant or Accounting Manager.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (major in accounting) or Accounting.
Previous project management experience including directing and supervising staff.
Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable working in a small business environment.
Possess a customer focus attitude as this role provides support to the rest of the company.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple responsibilities and handling the demands of multiple internal customers.
Leadership skills that inspire teamwork and a collaborative work environment.
Advanced computer skills in MS Office programs, Timberline (Sage 300), QuickBooks, FCS, Sage HRMS, and/or other Construction Accounting Software, and Databases.
Experience working in the Construction Industry is a plus but not required.
Proven knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles as well as Local, State, and Federal government law and regulation compliance.
Detail-oriented and highly organized.
High tolerance for stress and ability to meet deadlines.
Must maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times.
Strong written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills.
Team player who works towards achieving corporate goals and objectives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
