JOB DESCRIPTION
NICU Nurse responsibilities include caring for premature, injured, or ill newborns to promote their health and livelihood. The NICU RN monitors the newborns, runs various medical tests, and provides support to families as needed.
Per diem shifts available up to 40 hours a week scheduled
DUTIES
- Liaising with Specialists to ensure that each patient’s care plan meets their specific needs and is communicated clearly to the team.
- Monitoring patients’ vital signs and other activity
- Attending births
- Performing checks on newborns including Apgar tests, measuring them, and watching for a range of symptoms and congenital conditions
- Documenting patients’ treatment and any observations made
- Operating and maintaining specialist equipment in the NICU or HDU
- Helping parents to care for their baby, offering advice on feeding and sleeping, and signposting further sources of information.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in neonatal care and treatment.
- And other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
NRP certification.- A valid nursing certificate, BSN, or MSN degree from an accredited college or university.
- The appropriate license to work in their state/county.
- Current vaccinations and a lack of communicable diseases that might endanger patients with compromised immune systems.
- Proven work experience as a NICU Nurse or similar role.
- Needs to have at least 12 months of relevant consecutive acute care experience in this specialty.
- The ability to offer emotional support to parents, guardians, and family members.
- Working knowledge of NICU specialized equipment.
- Expertise in working with a team.
- Exceptional ability to offer comfort to ill newborns.
- Relevant training and/or certifications as a NICU Nurse.
- Strong organizational abilities and good communication skills.
- Fluency in the English Language.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
