General Summary Statement
Responsible for performing tests as assigned to support projects, ongoing product testing (including FMVSS 206 and other periodically scheduled testing programs) and maintaining test lab equipment and materials. The individual shall setup equipment, facilitate test parameter compliance, document observations, communicate test results to Test Engineers, and perform other assigned activities.
The Test Technician should have the technical and mechanical aptitudes to understand test requirements, trouble shoot systems, and perform individual tests in a responsive, reliable, representative, and repeatable manner. The individual must also possess the necessary communication and organizational skills to provide test activity coordination and systematic lab environment.
Through coordinating with the involved work group/team the incumbent needs to manage activities to ensure that testing is completed in a timely and effective manner.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Follow all written policies, procedures, and other documentation of the Test Engineering Department to ensure consistent and proper testing activities.
Help maintain testing schedules and maintain personal work lists to ensure product development activities are not delayed. Test observations, logs, and data shall be documented and maintain in an organized fashion.
Provide information to Test Engineers so that a full understanding of testing activities can be maintained. This is to be achieved through verbal communication and written documentation. Written documents can include but are not limited to test engineering specifications, test engineering procedures, test reports, work requisitions, and memorandums. Windchill is utilized for test document storage and communication.
Communicate with all other Test Engineering personnel in a timely and professional manner to promote the coordination of different activities so that testing is accurate, representative, and responsive.
Recommend innovative test equipment, methods and processes to promote current and future test capabilities and practices will satisfy immediate test requestor requirements and future needs of Test Engineering department.
Modify and program lab systems to meet all requirements of test request, procedures, and specifications, as needed for representative, repeatable, and reliable testing.
Trouble-shoot test systems to determine critical factors and make adjustments to ensure optimum performance of lab systems.
Organize and maintain the test lab facilities, equipment, and supplies to promote responsive, systematic, and accurate testing.
Provide for systematic storage and retrieval of test fixtures, materials, examples, equipment, and documentation.
As a team representative of Test Engineering, complete assigned tasks, execute testing activities with test so that team objectives can be completed accurately and in a timely manner.
Participate in the Six Sigma Employee Suggestion program to either suggest or help implement suggestions.
The incumbent should have computer skills using Microsoft Office, PLC ladder logic software, Windchill and other pertinent software programs. Professional development plans or training will be directly oriented toward these skills.
This position supports the continual improvement and compliance of QMS and EMS.

Basic understanding and ability to participate in cross functional teams constructing Design Failure Modes Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
Basic understanding and ability to assist in cross functional teams to create, update and finalize a Design Verification Plan & Report (DVPR) document.
Project Management
Basic understanding of project scheduling as it relates to Test Engineering.
Basic understanding and ability to support product managers with product ideas and potential improvements.
Working Conditions
The office area is air-conditioned and working conditions are excellent. The test lab is also air-conditioned. There is some eyestrain due to the close detail of the work. This area requires normal or corrected vision with no color deficiency, normal depth perception and peripheral vision of 180 degrees. Safety glasses are required whenever office personnel are in the plant production area. The noise level is 50 to 80 dB; hearing protection is not required. Hearing protection is encouraged if office personnel will be spending more than brief periods in high-noise areas of the plant.
