Engineer Manager

SUMMARY Plans and coordinates the work of engineering staff, overseeing their activities to ensure goals and objectives are met. Recruits additional engineering staff as needed and conducts timely and constructive performance evaluations. Candidates should have experience with doors and door hardware.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages department budgets.
• Designs engineering strategies.
• Verifies project compliance with engineering best practices.
• Collaborates with company stakeholders.
• Updates department policies and procedures.
• Develops engineering standards and modeling practices.
• Conducts site surveys and collects information for IFC drawings.
• Develops base drawings and coordinates with the A/E of record to produce IFC drawings.
• Incorporates feedback from fabrication and the field to improve quality.
• Coordinates with vendors to ensure proper hardware procurement for the final product.
• Estimates project costs with applicable margins and reviews with Senior Leadership for proposals to clients.
• Communicates daily goals to team members to support the overall schedule.
• Provides load/capacity planning input to support the overall schedule.
• Communicates invoicing milestones and drives on-time delivery.
• Develops and tracks KPIs with the Director of Operations to drive improvement.
• Generates production changes, releases drawings, and estimates production timelines for each process.
• Ensures products meet customer specifications and are made from specified materials/drawings.
• Coordinates employees’ time off.
• Manages and delegates assignments within the engineering department.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. Directly supervises all engineering positions, ensuring quality control of all engineering design documents released for fabrication. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the following requirements. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• ERP or NetSuite experience preferred.
• Proficiency in CAD systems and quick learning capabilities.
• 3D modeling experience, preferably in SolidWorks.
• Knowledge and understanding of cutting steel plate, forming plate utilizing press brakes, welding of plate, and assembly.
• Thorough knowledge of the metric system and descriptive geometry.
• Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• BS in Engineering or Architecture or equivalent field/work experience.
• Ten years of related experience.
• Experience with doors and door hardware is highly desired.

TRAVEL Ability to travel out of state for training or customer visits as needed.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
• Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members.
• Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
• Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and boards of directors.

REASONING ABILITY

• Analytical knowledge; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret and enforce a variety of legal and regulatory publications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Professional Engineering Certification or Architectural equivalent desired but not required. Experience is key.
