What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Med Tech II position at Trinity Health Michigan?
Performs analysis of blood, urine, stool and body fluids. Evaluates reports on the basis of the clinical and analytical conditions and is responsible for maintaining the quality of the laboratory testing.
Medical Laboratory Scientist II also has oversight of policies, procedures and specific testing within a larger department. The additional duties over and above a Medical Laboratory Scientist I include, but are not limited to at least three of the following: Lab Safety Officer, key administrator of temperature monitoring system, key operator on laboratory analyzer, responsible for non-routine instrument maintenance and upkeep, oversight of quality control, involved in test method validation, oversight of small equipment (thermometer, pipettes, timers etc.), charge-master maintenance, proficiency testing program, supply ordering and oversight of inventory, Meditech Super-user, training of staff in the area they lead, etc.
Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist II’s have all the responsibilities mentioned above and are in charge of one of the following general departments: Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, or Blood Bank. They are responsible to educate staff on changes within their departments and address any issues that arise with general errors made by staff within their areas. They are the general point person for that department and are expected to bring up any problems, concerns, ideas for improvement, and new/old testing changes that may need to be made.
Minimum Skills, Experience and Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Scientist (aka: Medical Technology) or related discipline, Registry or Certification by professional organization such as the ASCP or equivalent is required. Continuation of employment is contingent on passing of ASCP or equivalent within 18 months of hire. Ability to read, speak and write English effectively
Performed work successfully as a Medical Laboratory Scientist II with above average annual evaluations for minimum of one year is highly recommended, minimum of one year as a Medical Laboratory Scientist I is required.
40hrs per week, 6:30a-3p with a weekend and a half per month, rotating holidays
