JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Infant/Toddler Lead Caregiver

The person selected for these positions must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field of early childhood education or development, and be able to meet the requirements of the licensing agency. This person must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults.

PURPOSE: The Early Childhood Center of Trinity Lutheran is a ministry of Christian love to children and their families It is formed to:

  • Provide quality Christian care and education to children that will prepare them for life on earth and in heaven.
  • Provide a safe and wholesome setting with the goal of helping children develop spiritually, socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally.
  • Minister to parents in the congregation and community by providing childcare/preschool services that meet their needs as well as support them in the nurturing process of the “whole” child.

JOB CONTROL: The Lead Caregiver is accountable to the ECC Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. In cooperation with and under the direction and supervision of the Director, plan well-rounded educational, recreational, and social programs that include play, experiential, and other age-appropriate activities in accordance with the purpose and philosophy of the Lutheran Early Childhood program.

2. Keep a written plan of daily class activities.
3. Meet the developmental, social, emotional and educational needs of each child.
4. Keep up to date developmental records of children in class.
5. Possess necessary skills for managing a classroom and staff.
6. Work with parents to promote understanding of the growth and development of their children; encourage parent participation in school and church programs; be available for parent conferences; attend church, school and ECC programs as pertains to their class. a. Conduct, implement and attend open houses, programs, and other activities for children and parents as pertains to their class and under the directions of the director.

7. Provide written guidelines and lesson plans for substitutes.
8. Supervise and give guidance and direction to caregivers and volunteers in their rooms.
9. Attend staff meetings and other professional and spiritual growth activities.

10. Comply with and maintain all state licensing rules, regulations and requirements for the position and classroom assigned including: a. Keep up to date on CPR and First Aid. b. Attain the required number of training hours c. Complete background check and be found eligible for work in a childcare d. Have a negative TB test on file e. Be at least 21 years of age

11. Arrive promptly and regularly for the daily program.
12. Follow health and safety regulations.
13. Implement policies as found in Trinity Policy and Procedures Manual as pertains to their class.
14. Keep attendance and other records.
15. Perform any and all tasks that may from time to time be assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Possess minimum state licensing requirements: CDA or higher and 2 years’ experience, Associates or higher preferred

2. Understand and support Trinity mission and purpose.
3. Meet state minimum requirements for the position set by Licensing and

Regulatory Affairs (LARA) (see number 10 above)
4. Like and respect children
5. Know developmental needs and interests of the children
6. Understand community values
7. Understand and have the ability to work with coworkers and parents
8. Have a broad range of skills in crafts, recreation, music, and drama
9. Be flexible
10. Be able to share the Gospel and a personal faith with children and parents.
11. Maintain a professional appearance.
12. Share responsibility in team ministry.
13. Be well organized and able to plan in advance.
14. Able to lift at least 30 pounds, get up and down from the floor and able to otherwise keep up with the age of children assigned.
15. Be computer literate and able to use technology for communication and other educational purposes.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.38 - $17.95 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 35 per week
