Position Summary and Essential Functions:
The Accounting Associate reports to the Finance Director and is responsible for supporting the Finance Director in maintaining the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization. The job includes accurate recording of daily financial transactions, accounts payable, payroll/benefits, staff time tracking, loan accounting reconciliation, as well as, other financial accounting and account analysis tasks as assigned. The position has no supervisory duties. The position occasionally communicates with external vendors, contractors, as well as, regularly with all TAC staff and senior leadership team members.
Our ideal candidate has a knowledge of both non-profit accounting and lending industry accounting, as well as, possesses strong communication skills. This is a “roll up your sleeves” position, which requires an entrepreneurial approach and strong analytical skills. She/He must be committed to TAC’s mission in providing services to a diverse population.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Executing all accounting functions and coordinating timely and accurate processing of deposits, payments, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Performing daily and weekly reconciliations and month-end closing tasks.
- Assisting daily in all financial/accounting transaction activity, including processing general ledger transactions, and bank account reconciliations.
- Serving as primary support for payroll and timekeeping software programs.
- Producing timely and accurate accounting, HR, payroll, and financial reports for review by Finance Director and other leadership team, as requested.
- Working with Finance Director to administer and report on annual operating budgets and organizational grant budgets.
- Maintaining various Excel database reports for notes payable, grant expense allocations, and other financial reports.
- Reconciling loan interest and principal payments from borrowers and investors.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Finance Director.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or 3-5 years of work experience with preferred experience in a non-profit, and/or lending arena.
- 2 years professional experience working with human resource financial functions required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Strong Proficiency MS Office Products; particularly Excel spreadsheets. Financial modeling experience a plus.
- Ability to understand, analyze, create, and modify financial statements as needed.
- Resourceful self-starter who relishes multitasking.
- Ability to integrate thoroughness and attention to detail with a big picture view.
- Superior analytical and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
- Collaborative spirit and positive attitude.
- Preferred experience in federal and/or state sponsored lending programs, such as, the CDFI Fund, U.S. Small Business Administration, and USDA, Rural Development.
- Preferred experience in nonprofit, mission-based, small office environment.
Work Setting and Physical Requirements:
- This position requires working in an office environment and occasionally meeting clients and partners at public places.
- Minimal travel required (5% of time). Travel expense reimbursement is provided.
- No extraordinary physical requirements beyond ability to travel.
- Job involves normal physical requirements for an office position.
