TITLE:

POSITION SUMMARY:
Working with students with and without disabilities, the behaviorist develops and implements behavior management interventions and conducts various assessments. The behaviorist also acts as consultant and supports staff to effectively respond to different types of student behavior.

School Principal & District Administrator of Special Education
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
The behaviorist must have professional certification in a relevant field. Examples include licensure as a special educator, social worker, psychologist, applied behavior analyst or Board Certified Behavioral Analyst.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Candidates should have experience as a behaviorist, or in another similar role. All prospective employees must undergo state-mandated criminal background checks (ie., CORI, SORI, and SAFSIS) and be deemed suitable for employment.

Provide consultation and intervention regarding behavior management, effective education and assessment of behavioral needs of students with and without disabilities; conduct functional behavioral assessments; design, implement and monitor behavior intervention plans; understand State and Federal regulations relative to behavioral requirements and students with disabilities; develop crisis intervention plans when needed; serve as the behavioral liaison between students receiving special education services and outside providers, private psychiatrists, psychologists and community agencies when consent is given; serve as member of the IEP team for students with behavioral concerns; prepare written reports as needed by district to outside psychiatric professionals/community agencies re: behavioral concerns of identified special education students; consult with school staff working with student with behavioral needs on behavior management techniques and information on specific student needs; provide consultation to parents re: child development, behavior management techniques; conduct professional development on training behavior management, progress monitoring, data collection techniques, social skills or other targeted district needs; familiarize oneself with most recent research/practice in applied behavior analysis; provide social emotional skill lessons and materials to teachers, student groups or individual students as needed; oversee the implementation of behavior programs by others; conduct experimental evaluations of interventions to determine efficiency and effectiveness of the Intervention; other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Communicate verbally clearly and concisely; effectively present information and respond to questions from students, staff, parents and the general public; skillfully write reports and other correspondence; use reasoning to evaluate information and determine a sound course of action; define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions; use evidence and/or research to make decision pertaining to professional practice; establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community; work independently and collaboratively; prioritize tasks and manage several job functions simultaneously; perform duties with an awareness of state and federal laws as well as Silver Lake Regional School District policies; work with students, colleagues and families from diverse backgrounds with diverse needs in an inclusive and culturally-proficient manner; maintain confidential records and information; react professionally and thoughtfully to unpredictable situations (e.g. environmental changes, challenging student behavior, medical events, etc.); operate a computer and related applications; and an ability and willingness to participate in ongoing professional and staff development.
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work environment described reflects conditions an employee may encounter while performing this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
The employee may be regularly required to move and travel throughout and around the building(s). The employee may also be required to remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee may be required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.). The employee may frequently use hands and fingers. The employee may operate a computer and other office productivity devices (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, printer, etc.).
The employee must be able to input information into a computer and read a computer screen and other printed materials. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. The employee must be able to monitor students on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide directions. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. The employee will be working in a typical school environment with an expected level of noise. With the entire school community, the employee shares responsibility for students' safety and their physical and emotional well-being.
