Position Title: English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher

Essential Functions:
- Provide instruction for students who qualify for ELL Services, including Supportive Mainstream and Newcomers program models.
- Supervise staff assistants, tutors and volunteers.
- Participate and/or oversee state, federal and district required testing.
- Assess students' academic learning and/or skills to provide feedback to students' parents and administration regarding student progress.
- Communicate students' progress to parents and staff.
- Work with staff in the transition of students to general education classes.
- Maintain effective, positive classroom management.
- Work cooperatively with students and parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse.
- Work collaboratively with mainstream teachers in support and instruction of EL students.
- Participate in staff meetings, planning events, and grade level/department/PLC/job-alike meetings.
- Engage in ongoing professional development.
- Valid Washington teaching certificate with an English as a Second Language or ELL endorsement required.
- Successfully complete Washington State Patrol background check. Employee is responsible for cost of background check.
- Strong background, training, and experience in English as a Second Language.
- Preferred experience working with students and families who are culturally, linguistically and racially diverse.
- Experience working with at-risk student populations preferred.
- Experience working with economically diverse or challenged populations preferred.
- Commitment to personal and professional growth.
- Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, and possess a strong professional orientation.
- Must have regular, consistent attendance.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Ability to model good instructional strategies.
- Understanding of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Washington State English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).
- Experience with Sheltered instructional practices and other instructional strategies appropriate for ELLs including SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) and/or GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design).
- Ability to supervise staff assistants, tutors and volunteers.
