Seeking candidates with Professional Billing (PB) experience. May need to come on-site up to 10% of the time with the potential to be at any of the Tufts Medicine locations in MA as required to meet business needs.
The Education Developer is responsible for leading the development, maintenance, and continual enhancement of revenue cycle-related curriculum administered to employees across Tufts Medicine through the Revenue Cycle’s Education and Professional Development Program. The role functions as a key agent of collaboration between the Operational Strategy Optimization (“OSO”) pillar of the Revenue Cycle, the other seven functional areas of the Revenue Cycle, Tufts Medicine’s Information Services Department, and operations stakeholders across Tufts Medicine to align educational solutions with business strategies.
Serving in a lead role, possesses strong organization and project management skills, the ability to influence the performance of a collective team of resources that may not report directly to them, prioritize and delegate tasks, and facilitate initiatives from inception through completion by established deliverable dates.
This position will contribute to the pursuit of service and operational excellence by developing productive and dynamic working relationships and creating collaborative opportunities between OSO team members, the revenue cycle, partner support-focused Departments, third party vendor partners, and the Tufts Medicine end-user community.
Responsibilities
- The Education Developer position may be assigned focus in one or a combination of the following applications related to Revenue Cycle operations; namely, but not limited to, the following Epic applications and other areas of OSO-supported operations. Requires in-depth knowledge as applies: Cadence, Referral Management, Prelude, Real-Time Eligibility (“RTE”), Health Information Management Operations [Birth Registrar | Release of Information (“ROI”) | Identity Management | Scanning Operations | Transcription | Chart Deficiency Management | Inpatient/ Outpatient/ Emergency Department Coding], Document Management, Faxing Operations, Revenue Integrity Charge Capture, Hospital Billing (“HB”) | Single Business Office Billing (“SBO”) | Professional Billing (“PB”), and Epic Cogito Analytics/ Reporting.
- Functions under the umbrella of the Operational Strategy and Optimization (“OSO”) pillar of the Tufts Medicine Revenue Cycle
- The Education Developer has the ability to apply advanced critical thinking to highly complex situations, efficiently diagnose areas of opportunity, and effectively develop, test, communicate, and execute solutions in a timely manner to meet learning needs across the organization.
- Serves as a lead education specialist and Epic technology generalist responsible for aligning educational solutions with business needs in concert with the strategic direction set forth by the OSO Managers, Directors, and Senior Director
- Serves as an educational liaison between the Tufts Medicine Revenue Cycle, Tufts Medicine’s Information Services Department, and Tufts Medicine operations to ensure the integrity and optimization of available education curriculum and tools
- Collaborates effectively with OSO leadership, Tufts Medicine leadership, and other key stakeholder groups to identify, prioritize, and develop training programs to meet assessed educational needs
- Assists with the development of system-wide educational materials by creating, maintaining, and continuously improving curriculum for all Revenue Cycle functional areas by assigned application and role(s)
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of relevant Epic application(s) and remains current with new application functionality and enhancements as they pertain to Tufts Medicine workflows.
- Manages build and maintenance within Epic MST/ACES environments to support interactive and effective programs both for overall enhancement and for mandatory future Epic software upgrades.
- Maintains data integrity within the Learning Management System (LMS)
- Secures sufficient and thorough system testing consistent with protocols established by the organizations governance committees prior to approving the migration of updates into the production environment
- Develops and maintains standard technical and operational documentation for all implemented efforts to support sustainability and end-user education/ experience/ results
- Analyzes available data and planned system/application change control schedules to anticipate and proactively plan required changes to curricula
- Participates in continuous improvement efforts, including but not limited to, the evaluation of training program effectiveness; recommends and executes agreed upon enhancements/ updates
- Responsible for final sign off on all published educational materials per assigned focused area(s)
- Assists with the development and communication of project plans/ timelines/ progress to various audiences
- Assists in the creation and recurring delivery of OSO Edu performance reporting
- Promotes and champions a data-driven Revenue Cycle and operations across Tufts Medicine; aims to establish formal measures of performance for all initiatives, implemented workflow, and as determine fitting to quantify other efforts/ output
- Assists with the facilitation of training courses, at-the-elbow support (“ATE”) support, rounding, and the associated administrative logistics as required
- Serves as an extension to the OSO Edu leadership team by supporting the management of overall team resources through the completion assigned projects by the established deliverable date
- Facilitates the education and credentialing process for OSO Education Specialist role
- Serves as team lead to OSO resources assigned to specific initiatives and daily scope of responsibilities
- Provides technical and professional guidance to less experienced OSO team members to develop strong team dynamics and ensure the quality of the OSO’s work output
- Promotes a culture of continuous learning and knowledge share across the entirety of the OSO team, revenue cycle, and other key stakeholder groups
- Collaborates daily with the Analytics and Systems Optimization arm of the OSO to support the continuous alignment of systems, process, analytics, and education across Tufts Medicine
- At the direction of the Manager of Revenue Cycle Education, ensures all demands are staffed in alignment with resource capacity, competence, and skill
- Participates in regular meetings with the OSO Educational and Professional Development team and represents OSO EDU in the optimization/project space when applicable
- Ability and willingness to learn new technical applications and information quickly and utilize application tools and information to meet end-user/ operational requirements
- Willing to support a hybrid setting role; role is primarily remote, however requires estimated travel up to 10% of the time to a Tufts Medicine and/ or otherwise indicated location as needed, following occupational health requirements being met unless provided an exemption. Prior notice may be limited based on the circumstance, however employer will aim to provide advanced planning to extent feasible
- Willing to support occasional off-hours support if exception-based circumstance requires
Experience
- Undergraduate degree in education, healthcare, or transferrable field and 4 to 6 years of related experience in education/ training programs or Graduate degree and 3 to 5 years of related experience
- Current Epic certification(s) and/or appropriate certifications as defined by role or must obtain appropriate certification(s) within 30 days of scheduled class date; must maintain active certifications
- Existing Epic Certification in Cadence, Prelude, Referrals, HB/PB Resolute preferred
- 4 to 6 years of related experience leading education/ training programs and undergraduate degree in education, healthcare or a closely related field or Graduate degree and 3 to 5 years of related experience
- Knowledge and understanding of hospital revenue cycle operations including, but not limited to: scheduling, patient registration across the continuum of a patient’s experience and in various care settings, patient estimates, pre-certification/ authorization, financial counseling, pre/ point-of-service patient liability collections, referral management, middle revenue cycle operations [inpatient/ outpatient/ emergency department hospital and professional coding, health information management operations, release of information (“ROI”), medical transcription], clinical documentation integrity, utilization management (“UR”), revenue integrity [charge description master management, charge capture integrity, payment integrity, denials prevention, patient financial services [hospital billing (“HB”), single business office (“SBO”), professional billing (“PB”), claims and payment posting, denials management, payer audits, post-acute care setting operations [home health, hospice].
- Basic educational pedagogy familiarity and healthcare IT knowledge
- Technical acumen to build and maintain Epic Training environments
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of adult education and systems training methodology and the ability to connect application interoperability and integrated operational workflows through prior professional experience
- Prior experience with Epic MST Environment, LMS systems, and e-learning software preferred
- Experience and/ or ability to gain competence using Project Management software required
